edit: It seems to work if you do not select all.
It's annoying that it doesn't explain this from the trade menu (even if you mouse over the release option), but if you open up your master animal list (in the zoo overview menu) and try to release them there it actually will give you information when you mouse-over the greyed out "Release" button.
This is the right answer. Exhibit animals can only be sold for cash in Exhibit Mode.
Also note Rjd2's issue with the "select all" function. You must select all exhibits individually or it will not let you sell them. If you do select all, you must deselect each animal individually, then select them individually again.
ONLY HABITAT animals.
So not snails and frogs etc for creds. Only lion, tigers etc
But you can sell them for cash. And i encourage you to check the social group preferences in the zoopedia and then set up and auto sell with population management tab. Caps at 13k a year per species.
