Overall too difficult(?)
In my opinion the game is way to complicated for a "Zoo-Tycoon" as the most people are seeing it. Building paths is a science on its own. So much to work around to get that what you want. Building a "Plaza" is like building a rocket-ship.. come on.. is this what Frontiers wants?

It is more complex for sure, but this is what a lot of people really want. The ability to design and build the whole enclosure has been missing for a long time in zoo games.

Also, you will be able to plop down premade blueprints if building is not your thing.

Frontier gives us more creative freedom over the Tycoon series. If you've played Planet Coaster you will know that it give you far more creative license over the Coaster Tycoon games. This game is meant to give you the ability to design and oversee every aspect of your park. I personally don't consider this a game is the classic sense where the Tycoon series I would. This is more of a modeling platform. Spending hours creating a single habitat or vendor building is what we find enjoyable.

Of course it is difficult for the first time, but it's worth it. :steamhappy:

Way way easier than Planet Coaster and different level same/around as Jurassic world.

lol, being unfamiliar with Planco I was also really struggling to do this. Eventually I just used the gridmode thing and built it one square at a time.

If you're looking for a simple game play Minecraft. It's a creative building game. Of course it's complicated in the beginning, but do you have to make every game idiot-proof? You're one of those people why game developers are making more and more casual games because nobody wants to think anymore when they want to play a game.

I for one would like the mechanics of building something to be easier too. Not because I like games to be easy but because I came here for managing and caring for the animals and not the fence and path building. I'm not a creative or artistic person either. I'm only interested in the supposedly intelligent animal simulation but I haven't gotten that far in 1,5h of gameplay fighting against the fence building mechanics. I've never played any world building simulation of this sort before since I'm not interested in them so maybe that's another problem here.
I will try to learn to one day get to the animals though ;)

To each their own of couse.

Personally, the complexity is exactly why it appealed to me. Coming off Planet Coaster, I was excited to be able to build enclosures exactly as I wanted them and really make my zoo look and feel unique. You're right that there's a sort of science to things, but once it "clicks" for you, things become a lot quicker and it really lets you open up your options.

I suggest looking up one of the building tutorials for Planet Coaster on Youtube and see if those tips help it click for you any. They really helped me back when I was starting out with the system and found it overly complicated.

You're playing Maya not a video game.

I really do think the path and barrier building mechanics could use some work. Often I settle for "good enough" because I can't get it to do what I want. Although I am slowly getting the hang of it.

As for building other stuff? If you don't wanna put the time in (I don't always) then check out the workshop. LOTS of creatively inclined folks out there building great stuff!

To be honest, it's a bit of a problem of trying to cater to two different kind of players.
And so far i get the feeling that the overall passage of time ingame is too fast, without putting it into forward mode.
If i don't pause i can't check on every new bred beauty-bird (going to use that because of the auto-filter of the forums), which runs quite a bit against their aim to form some connection to the animals or actually do breeding programs. As is the seeming lack of deeper animal behaviour.

Then again early-access/beta.

I don't see the issue with building paths? What's hard about that? The game is more complex than Zoo Tycoon and that's good. It's still an easy and fun game. I don't think it's too difficult at all.

I hope the OP is using the GRID function. It's so easy then.

The freedom in this game is what I desperately wanted all these years. I am loving it. I would however appreciate a mode where there is a grid toggle for the world, rather than just for certain items while using them. This would make laying nice even fences easier.
