i would say be the main factor
but sure take out close portal they have to use the portal more away
and u take out lighthouse sea side - u only get attack from one side
but again, time is somewhat the essence ;D
however, the retaliation wave for destroying a portal increases each time, which is a good reason to destroy as few portals as possible.
as for the main campaign, it is likely the devs intention that you destroy the dockside portal as soon as possible, making one half of the map completely safe while the day count is still low. that way, when you have iron power, you can come back later and focus just on the cliffside when the day count is higher and the enemies stronger.
its kind of fun to play like this, too.....but it turns out that the game is MUCH easier if you just never destroy any dockside portals at all. focus on speed, until you can destroy cliffside portals, and keep the day count as low as possible. this also makes the retaliation waves half as strong, since the total number of small portals destroyed is the most important factor in retaliation strength.
maybe look at this guide ?
this might even get you to get the Cursed crown ;D
