Use of Loki's staff

Update: tldr; There doesn't seem to be any (useful) strategic use for the staff and imo. it should not be available in Lost Islands because it gives you a disadvantage against the other options when you get a Norselands world.

I am trying to find a good use for the staff. I understand that you can change into a greed and back so you can safely return home while greed is all around you, but it seems so useless for real tactics.

I mean with Thor's Hammer, you can defeat an entire blood moon attack if played right, almost the same with the skull (Hel's trophy) and the skull can help you attack portals far away, and the horn (of portals) can make units go to portals and back instantly, also great for expanding and early coin gathering). These are all great tools for several uses, offensive and more But with Loki's staff I don't really see a good advantage.

Am I missing the real advantage for it?

I guess this artefact wasn't introduced for serious tactics, but it's meant to be fun, while allowing players to experiment being on a greed or subject skin (and honoring the shapeshifting ability of the Norse god Loki, of course).

I've done a ton of builder stuff with it since builders are major slackers... but the portals can get them out to the build place quickly too.

i think you used to be able to become the boar and get lots of coins, but you cant anymore.

what? you can do what now? loki's staff only lets you turn into greed...or maybe this changed..?

EDIT: oh cool! yea they added it in a (not-so-recent anymore) update, you can do builder actions and stuff

How do you do builder stuff with it? I‘ve transformed into a builder and went to a tree that I marked for cutting down but he won‘t do it, someone else will come and do it.

It‘s fine that its use is less than that of the rest (although if the above is true, that changes a lot) if you can switch with the others, but in Lost Island you are stuck with it when it is the random choice of the day.

Ok, I just tried to build stuff as a builder, but it seems to be impossible. If I don't mark the trees for cutting or the walls/towers for building, I can't work on anything and as soon as I mark it and another builder is assigned to it, I can't start working on it. So how does it work?

I just held down the action button and my character moved to the nearest project and started hammering on it...
Assuming I'm remembering correctly... my son remembers too so I don't think I'm fully crazy...

EDIT:
And by action button I mean I think it was A on the controller... which I think is down arrow on the keyboard? I haven't actually played using the keyboard.

Other than that, my son would turn into archers in the cave and help shoot the greed spawners or would scout out the islands as a greed so he wouldn't get attacked. I wouldn't call those especially useful though.

It seems that this has been removed on the Jan/2023 update:

The Loki staff ability can no longer be used inside the cave.

Become an archer to join attacks against portals, builder for trees or wall upgrades (although it stopped working as I got further away from the centre), berserker (hold down to go into berserk mode and leap and smash to your hearts content). Had a lot of fun with it recently

Well, I did remember doing some of those things, but it doesn't seem to work at all anymore.

Loki was a integral part of Norse culture. He was also a trickster that loved to play games on other Gods. He wielded a staff, and the staff made it's way pixelated into the game. It's main job is to trick the Greed into believing you are one of them. It's also helpful in other ways, as you can become whoever you want to be. Need to chop that tree that's close to a portal, become a builder and do so. Did you build that wall close to night and have only one builder to build it, help the builder. Hunt like the archers, even work the farm. It has many uses! At one point you could even transform yourself in the portal but they removed that, you also could become the boar and get shot over and over again each time getting coins for winter. You can become the boar still but you don't get the coins!
