I think they are fantastic.
I love Astro World (Demo!) the most because it looks so beautiful - even at night.
There will also be 4 player coop!
All 3 are very exciting and at the moment you can buy 2 of them relatively cheap.

Of all the games that offer similar gameplay to the Kingdom series, Phoenix Hope comes in second place for me personally. Especially when you zoom out, the game looks pretty good. Especially the nature, the buildings and the background. I find the music wonderfully atmospheric and very well done. The gameplay is very interesting, exciting and entertaining.

There is also a demo! Some community members are angry because there hasn't been an update for a long time. Some say that the developers are Ukrainian and have problems because of the war, but it's probably also the coding??? Because before the war there was no update for a long time either.
This game is a little different from its predecessor because here the Villagers have needs like eating, but the project seems ambitious:

I don't know much about this game here:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1603800/Monsters_per_second/
I also bought Kingdoms and Castles recently because they added AI Empire and it made me think of Anno 1404 - despite all the obvious differences.
But our king had specifically asked for a Kingdom-like sidescroller and Kingdom and Castles is not that, is it? Well, at least our king can choose to expand his castle here as well.
By the way, if you want a game to be linked here, all you have to do is search the internet for the game on Steam and then paste the link here. Like this:

Nevertheless, my favourite remains Astro World (link in my first post).
As the developers have explained, the demo is not yet very extensive. In the full version, the walls and towers can be expanded in several stages and there will be higher-level enemies. We could already see that there are higher-level weapons and tools in the form of laser rifles and drills. There are also vehicles (instead of horses), which reminded me of the lunar roving vehicle. Instead of the merchant, you have solar panels, which are also animated. Instead of cutting down trees, you use C4 explosives to sweep away debris. You figure out the rest yourself. On discord it says it will be available for purchase for 10-15$. It won't be long now, because in April the release was planned for July. Co-op for up to 4 players. In any case, the game went on my wishlist!
Does anyone else have cool tips?

Yes, that's right and I like this game.

"No SOV is not a ripoff. I have nothing to do with Kingdom and it does not play like Kingdom. All who expect another Kingdom will be disappointed."
Oh dear.
I thought of another game: The Wild Age. (not a sidescroller)
The community criticised it for being too similar to Kingdom and some also said they didn't like the controls. I thought the controls were okay, but it's very similar to Kingdom, but I think the graphics are very nice. Typical Kingdom: Paradoxically, the game experience was both relaxing and exciting for me. There is a demo.

My favourites are:
1st place:
Astro World: Beautiful graphics innovative setting, co-op for 4 players, for $10-15, release in the near future.
In 2nd place:
Phoenix Hope: Wonderfully atmospheric music, interesting gameplay, ambitious devs with great plans for this Early Access title. Currently relatively cheap in the sale. If you zoom out, the nature, the buildings (also at night) and the background look pretty good.
You can find the links above in my first post.
It's got the same mechanic of defending your town from two sides and expanding your walls but is much more complex. It's got a lot more units and different defense weapons.
Except once you get past the start it was more about taking groups of troops into different areas to collect stuff and clear out enemies.
Glad some people know about the sov dev.
I never played that game because of what the dev's said.
I wont hate a game for being similar to a good game. That's how different genre were born and it can still be quite good if the game bring something different to it.
Be it just a different art direction.
But the dev's reaction with all the dishonesty and arrogance made me unable to play that game which i could've liked.
I'm surprised you brought up Ratropolis but not Ratopia. Ratopia feels a lot closer to Kingdoms.

Ratropolis doesn't really play the same. There's a lot of card management and no real interacting with the environment most of the time. The combat is similar though, yes.
There's also Craft the World.

I think you mean this game here, right?
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2391650/Monarchy/
I've just bought it and I think it's wonderful.
The artwork is really cute. The developers have managed to give the game a charm all of its own.
It plays a lot like Kingdoms, but you can decide which buildings you build.
