096 Changes
Preamble

BEFORE YOU SAY “-1 096 should be removed”, I AGREE! 096 is extremely unhealthy for the game and can’t be fixed. All of the attempts at fixing 096 have failed, and all of the proposals that attempt to fix 096 don’t ever tackle his core issue. He’s unable to be repaired. However, Hubert understands and wants him to be removed. Ender understands his issues as well, maybe he wants him removed too. Hubert has said that he doesn’t want 096 removed until there’s plenty of other SCPs to cover his role. Until then, I believe he should still receive some changes. None of my proposed solutions fix his core issue (getting triggered when people look at his face), but they are meant to make him less annoying to fight. All values here can be changed by NW if they wish to.

Vision Changes

096 can only enter rage after being looked at for 0.30 seconds

This sounds weird, but let me explain. A while ago, my friend recorded an encounter he had with 096. In this video 096 barely appears, but he still heard the thump. He looked back at the video frame by frame and saw that 096 only appeared on his screen for 0.0667 seconds. For reference: the fastest human reaction time is 0.15s. You literally cannot react to 096 in certain situations. Making it so 096 cannot enrage unless he is looked at for a small amount of time would make him less frustrating. Of course NW can change the value, but there needs to be something to avoid triggering 096 when he appears for 4 frames on your screen.

Remove 096’s ability to see targets through walls

When humans encounter SCPs they have 3 options:
1. Run
2. Hide
3. Fight

I don’t need to explain why you can’t run from 096. Most civvies cannot put up a fight against 096 in the early game. Most of time if 096 makes his way to LCZ and someone looks at his face, they’re ♥♥♥♥♥♥. You can’t hide from 096 because he sees you through the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wall. This ability is “lore” accurate, but not fun to deal with as a human. It’s not fun to deal with almost-certain death, especially when it’s triggered by just looking forward. So my suggestion is simple: Just remove 096’s visual target indicators. This allows humans to at least hide from him. He doesn’t even need to have them when they’re in his line of sight, they’re just an eyesore and make it harder to escape as a human. People who haven’t seen his face are hidden from his vision already, so I don’t believe it would change too much.


Rage Changes

096 should not be able to break doors

Instead he should be able to force them open. As a fellow SCP it is frustrating to not be able to close doors to block incoming gunfire because 096 destroyed it. Forced open doors are stuck for 3 seconds before they can be closed again.

096 should be able to open gates

One of the ways 079 is important to the SCP team is his ability to open up doors and gates. Since 096 can’t spawn with 079, he should be given the ability to open up gates to make up for the lack of an 079. This wouldn’t replace his pry ability. He would activate this by left clicking on the gate. Anyone trying to move through 096 while he slams it open would die.

Split TNTC

096’s ability to speed up his HS regeneration through TNTC is annoying. He can effectively undo any damage done to him for no real cost. Sure, he has to get in a vulnerable position, but he also becomes extremely quiet. However, his TNTC has its use already. So I suggest that the abilities be split up. TNTC would still work the same, right click on a door to lean against it and become silent, just without the HS regen buff. Now if 096 right clicks on a wall or when he’s not in rage he will cover his face and start regaining twice the amount of HS. The tradeoff for this is that his crying is amplified, so people can find him easier – though I would be fine if it just regenerated his HS and didn’t affect his crying volume at all (just as long as it doesn’t make him quieter).

Misc

096 (and other SCPs) should leave behind claw marks

Simple. When 096 (or other applicable SCPs) hit the wall they will leave behind a claw mark akin to a bullet hole.

Bring back 096’s ambience

Old 096 had a unique ambience when you were playing as him. My suggestion is simple: bring back the old ambience, but update the cries and distant screams. It made playing as him a lot cooler. Here’s what I’m talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hiI5mvgwws

Change 096’s scream

The tale “096-A” states that 096 sounds like a human when screaming. His current screams don’t match this and sound a bit generic and boring (no offense to the voice actor). Switching his scream back to sounding human-like would make him 100% scarier.

+1, though I think 096 opening up gates in docile would look pretty goofy.

As a side note, I think this was suggested a while ago in the patreon channels and I don’t remember if you downvoted it or said anything about, but what do you think about the “middle ground” solution of instead of 096 having the wallhacks, it has like the GSotD tracker that tells how close it is to a target?

my thing with the thought that shyguy shouldnt be able to break doors open doesnt seem all the logical since the SCP has gone on record to have broken through extremely thick layered airtight containment when ever it got it face seen and triggers when you even you dont relize you looked at its face even when it was 4 flippin pixels but idk

Oh I forgot to mention, it would be a rage ability only.

I still don't think that's a good idea. Having your location be revealed no matter what is unfair. At least 049 is somewhat slow, 096 is 096. If he finds you, you can't run from him at all, he doesn't need any help finding people lol

And those people were right but also frickin' wrong. NW took the lazier way out and just remixed his scream instead of trying to make a better one. His unedited scream sounds kinda bleh, but I'd rather have that over his inhuman one he has now

It's "lore" accurate, but it isn't fun to play with and against. Peanut can be stopped by multiple people blinking at different times in "lore", but that doesn't exist in game because it would suck.

Side note: I was completely unaware they removed his unique ambience. Ever since they added the sliders for scp preference I have not gotten 096. Really a shame they got rid of it

I've always assumed that in SL's lore, 173 has the ability to force anyone looking at it to blink after a certain amount of time. The more people there are, the harder it is to get them all to blink at the same time.
