173 Redesign

I'm going to refer to the new 173 as "Matthew".

I actually like it. A statue that literally splatters ♥♥♥♥ and blood everywhere should not look pretty. I love the tentacles and the eyes. Again, I like how they decided to go with the more "needy" aspect of 173. As it constantly wants attention, it wants to be seen. So it has multiple faces. And, of course, it throws a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tantrum. Snapping people's necks if they look away or blink, and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ everywhere when it doesn't have anybody to see.

Like a very tall, ugly, murderous, 3 year old.

However...

I thought the horror of 173 was copie- I mean similar to the Weeping Angels. Statues are meant to be completely still. So, to see one slowly creeping towards you is terrifying. It shouldn't be able to move. It shouldn't be able to snap your neck.

It shouldn't be alive. It's design is contrary for a living being. It doesn't even move like one. But it is alive.

However, Matthew is more organic than it's previous incarnation or the CB Unity Remake (RIP). With the tentacles, eyes, multiple faces, and the tumor-like growths all over. It's clearly alive but it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ disgusting.

It's horror relies more on the "OH GOD WHAT IS THAT THING".

Honestly, I like the "Is that alive?" more than "OH GOD WHAT IS THAT THING". What do you think?

It is horrifying and I love it. Cannot wait to literally ♥♥♥♥ in a doorway to prevent a D-class from escaping a dead end.

Small correction, 173 actually came out first, before the Weeping Angels, by several months I think... Although knowing how long it takes to make a TV show the Weeping Angel episode was probably done filming or at the very least had already finished being written before 173 article was posted. But yeah, 173's article was posted long before the episode that Weeping Angels first appeared in.

The Weeping Angels first appeared in June 9th 2007 in the Dr. Who episode "Blink".

While the original 4chan SCP-173 post was made in June 22nd 2007.

You're forgetting about Untitled 2004.

Untitled 2004 wasn't necessarily made for 173. It was just a cool statue used as an image for 173. The concept of 173 moving via blinking was taken from the Weeping Angels in the 4 chan post.

I love looking at 173 redesigns. F that Unity got cancelled. Anyone can use the Unity model as long as they give credit to the SCP Unity team since they made it.
