What Will Happen When SCP: Ascension Releases?
Hey, so I’ve been wondering for a bit about what’s going to happen to the game’s player base when SCP: Ascension is released?

SCP: Ascension has the same concept as SCL: SL but with a more realistic approach and on a larger scale than SCP: SL. I’m worried a large amount of the actual players who care about the lore of the Foundation and the ones who don’t micspam and squeak are going to turn towards SCP: A and leave behind a small amount of the community who care for the lore. This would result in SCP: SL having a large player base of squeakers and people who hardly know about the Foundation and lead games to be less enjoyable as a lot of the immersion comes from the players. Obviously, as well as that, you aren’t going to enjoy the game as much when your MTF Commander is under 12 years old and you are having to listen to Despacito over the intercom every game.

I mean, who doesn’t love listening to someone read the Communist Manifesto every once in a while. But every single game? Oof.

But yea I enjoy the game and I’m worried ab its future tbh.

First I've heard of Ascension tbh. No way of telling until it comes around so I guess let us see. I love this game and don't see it dying anytime soon

Q: Is SCP:A competing with SCP: Secret Laboratory? ᴺᴱᵂ

A: We started concepting our project several months before we even knew SL was being worked on/going to be released. Blackout, our gamemode most resembling SL's gameplay, is based around the general idea of the Garry's Mod Breach gamemode, with more grim/realistic ideas thrown in there for immersion. Breach is what SL also based their game around, in a less serious fashion while trying to recreate the gamemode 1:1 with map randomization and their own additions.

There may be indirect competition, but the situation can mostly be summed into this:

SCP:SL = Social, player-based game.
Ascension = "Hardcore" design plan; survival, tactical gameplay, A.I. SCPs and humans, and so on.

We are by no means trying to downplay SL, we simply just have our own ideas/aspirations for the game we want to deliver.

Copied directly from their FAQ. I believe both game are catering for different player bases. Casual vs hardcore.

Only time will tell, thought iirc they need more finding so the game is on hold or has been made to go slower.

yes.

Zircon's explanation pretty much sums it up. SCP:SL is a fun game for people to play casually, and not especially scary (not saying it's a bad thing, mind you), whereas Blackout (and Ascension, by extension), is going to follow in the footsteps of SCP:CB by creating a more dark and grim atmosphere. The two games, while on paper similar, will most likely have their own differences and the fanbase will divide amongst the two, rather then leaving one behind entirely.
SCP-SL will always be the best game, no matter what reddit people think about this game.

Guys , calm down , SCP:SL released in End 2017.
SCP : Ascension will just Release in End 2019-Middle 2020 , we still have a lot of time left.Ascension probably would kill this Game yes , or leave only the stupid people/kids at this game.SCP:SL might even be less popular than it is now by end 2019 , depending on the next Updates. But no matter what , nothing is going to stop anyone from acting like people act in Secret Laboratory , and if Ascension is better , we all move to Ascension.Simple. I love SCP:SL , played it since 1-2 days after Release , and got 562 Playhours , so dont think im saying anything against SL , but if Ascension is really gonna be like Garrys Mod Breach (which is also similar to SL a bit , but still a bit darker) and people will move to it , so be it

Oh yeah Ascension is going to be paid while this game is F2P.

the only reason why people like this game is because you can talk, say ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the intercom and scream, if that SCP game doesnt let people do this as well then I don't think it's an issue

personally, when ascension comes out and it isn't a steaming pile of ♥♥♥♥ I'm gonna be ditching this game as from what I've seen and heard that game will be way better.

I definitely stand by this when I put this in the FAQ. Most of my "hate" and how I see SL as a whole are not the reasons we are creating SCP:A. Our intention from the get-go was to make our own game with our own style. In fact, we didn't even know SL existed when we first started our project up. It was one of our community managers that told us about it.

We do not believe SCP:A will kill SL. But, we do expect to have our own playerbase, our own style, and our own aspirations that contrast from SL. Most of the crap I give them is mostly because it isn't my taste for a game. But, we surely shouldn't see eachother as threats.
