Did they ask permissions to the original SCP authors?
Like you probably already know, the SCP foundation is a site where people can make horror stories about creatures, places or objects kept secure from the world by the SCP Foundation for their powers or because they're dangerous etc.
The thing is that they're all made by different people, and did the developers get permission to use the characters for a Steam game? It's not like SCP: Containement Breach that's a solitary game, we're talking about Steam here.
Is there any information about the developers asking the original SCPs2 writers for using them in the game?

Fairly sure they don't need to, as I don't think the SCPs are copyrighted.

They don't have too. The games free, so no money is being made off the models and characters outside of donations. Lots of grey areas I won't get into, but for the most part, with the exception of 173, it's not a big deal.

They don't have to, unless they start charging for the game (Which Hubert said he won't do)

If it was a paid game would the scp people be aloud to sue?

"We use creative commons. It means that you can use stuff from here as long as you attribute it and don't make any profits off of other peoples stuff."
Answer straight from the site.

It's CC BY-SA 3.0[creativecommons.org]. You can share and adapt, however you must give credit and have the same license (with no more) IF you copy the articles (not done). So, it's copyrighted, but it's a very lax copyright.

scps are open source you dont need permission

SCP is basically an open source thing, you don't need to ask permission as long as you don't charge for it. The only "Copyrighted" thing in SCP is 173's image / Likeness, as an artist made that and allowed SCP Foundation to use it.

You dont need to ask permission, but generally it is nice to ask but i think generally authors of popular SCP's that appear ina few games (049, 173 etc.) are fine with it.

So, hypothetically, if Hubert decided to charge for the game, can the author of 173 sue him, since it has a different licensing?

Yes/ No, the image of 173 is made by some japanese artist they could sue, but the author of 173 cant, The reaosn why CB and the likes are free is because they use the image of 173 and its likeness, if hubert were to change the 173 model to something different he could charge for the game

(and there was a vote of the public discord some months ago if people wanted it changed, and it was about 50/50 but since so many people didnt want it to change it was decied to stay the same)

If we will change 173 model - yes, we csn make this game paid.

But we don't want to, it will be free forever (and without paid DLCs, micro transactions, etc...).
