Why isn't this gem on Epic Games Store?
Devs will get a better cut from the sales. Plus it'll be on a superior platform.

This struck me as genuinely strange...

Because the Epic Games Store is spyware and Epic Games is a very dirty company that gives millions to companies so they put their games exclusive to their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ platform which is worse than Steam in many aspects.

It doesn't matter how many services Steam offers. All the executives see at the top is "Instead of a 30% cut, we will give you a X% cut plus throw in a few million v-bucks dollars we got from Fortnite, just to make sure."

Now Epic is trying to present themselves at the magical hero of all gamers, by saying they won't force exclusives if Steam lowers their cut. "Hey! We'll stop screwing over people if you take a direct hit to your bottom line!"
That sounds like competition, but knowing Epic (and Valve's seeming total indifference to the entire concept of "competing"), it probably isn't going to play out well for anyone.
