Brewing, is it good for anything?

Im going down the farming tree of things and im about to be able to start cooking and brewing. I try to look things up ahead of time so im making the best choices and it seems food of course gives higher reward for skill ups, but brew doesnt seem to affect....anything other than a drunk effect? Is there any positives or is that it? Perhaps its just more of an RP thing which im totally fine with but it seems like something with such a huge time sink would yield some sort of benefit.

alcohol is vital for advanced food as well. You definitely want at least one brewer in your guild.
