Archery?
Hi guys. I'm a 'your own' owner although I didn't hugely get into it. I'm interested however in an mmo form and as such was curious how archery works. Is it good?

By good I mean is it worth taking over a sword or whatever. Also I'm curious as to whether it would be viable to be a hunter type character? I like pvp but I think I'd quite like a quieter life in this.

Thanks in advance!

Archery is good in Instancied Battle and necessary to "weak" ennemies team.
Ranged guy is only one can damage footman and take no risk ! They just need to be cover by Anti-cavalery to protect archer from cavalery :)
Due to Alignment every random kill = bad alignment causing losing lot of skills at death !
So it's important to attack only "ennemies" (Declared war) to doesn't lose alignment and lose only 3-7 point of 5 random skills (at 90 , each skill it's some hours of skilling)

Thanks for that. The character I will like to play is a simple hunter or farmer type, selling my wares and just living peacefully but if needed be ready with a bow for combat. A peaceful life if you will.

So I'll only ever be firing at enemies anyway.

Talking of hunting however. Is there a hunting system in the game? Tracking game and killing it to then harvest it for pelts and meat?

Hunter / archer would be an extremely viable build for the MMO. You can hunt and track animals then harvest their meat and hides. I would recommend leveling your cavalry skill to 60 so you can use a warhorse and travel across the map quicker.

Humain Hunting is not viable ;) due to alignment :D

Archery is pretty good, requires a minimum of 180 skillpoints to use longbows and minimum 50 strength, which means you will be able to use any other weapon you want on the same character. I prefer using a one handed axe as it only requires the footman skill and is pretty mean against shield users as well as taking up a hip slot. If you end up having to fight without your bow, you can use a pavise and a axe and be quite effective. Leather armor is good to have for the bonus, but scale is definitely not out of the question for protection. While still lowish weight and bonus to your defensive weapon.

Crafting skills to supply the character can be atleast semi self sufficient with the character itself and an additional crafting character. So pretty viable for general play in all areas really.

Aye, its basically follows the Rock, Paper, Scissors formula. Range>Infantry, Infantry>Cavlary, Cavlary>Archers

You'll have 4 slots to equip items, so of course I recommend having a sword handy. And make sure you upgrade your stats properly. Mainly Agility with a mix of Strength and Constitution.

As a hunter type character I noticed that a degree of animal taming was also part of the crafting tree. Does this mean I'll be able to do that in more peaceful times?

Cavalry is really poor against archers though. Extremely easy to avoid getting hit, especially for archers; who are amongst the fastest of foot combatants.

What really gets archers is other fast moving infantry, but remember. If someone does not want to fight in this game, getting away is pretty much guaranteed. Pretty much how it would play out IRL if two people of equal fitness would go up against each other and one decides to GTFO. What really brings death as a big risk to the table is when there is an objective. You are attacking someones village? well sure, they can run and let you sack it. Or fight and risk dying. You are defending your village? Sure, they could run after fighting for a bit, but its pretty hard to make a profit when you are not actually getting anything. This gets kinda pushed to a different level with varying stamina drains in combat, outside combat mode and the flee command.

It really depends on how the Cav is played. If you go 1Cav vs 1Archer, its going to be a mess of figure 8s and the archer jumping around wasting stamina for 5 to 10 minutes. All cav is going to be more affective in numbers.
AveragePetUser Nov 16, 2017 @ 1:26am
A group of cav running paralell to some infantry is going to make life a living hell for archers and just about anyone without a shield in the open. But a single cavalry man or two is basically just needle cushions for infantry and archers.

Most archers will also hopefully be smart enough to plop down some anti cav barricades to atleast give themselves a semblance of cover when they fight in the open against cav.

Also, longbow drains 12-16 stam per shot. Plenty of stam left to avoid the slow ass turning of lancers.
