A very hard ARPG. Not very good toolstips. You cannot see if you have debuffed the enemy or not.
Character progression is not that engaging or fun.
As of right now. I cannot recommend it. Will update when I have played more.

A good indie game; well worth the price, packing a lengthy play-time, from an active dev team of just two people.

At a micro level it's a Turn-based Strategy - controlling mercenary movement, placement and actions, while making optimal usage of your limited skills. Then you have another layer, consisting of dungeon navigation with other factors like Time and Morale, item-management and Events to make your journey more challenging and/or rewarding. At the macro level, you have three main things to manage: your Mercenary Crew, Money, and Time. Similar mechanics to games like Wartales, Battle Brothers and Darkest Dungeon.

Combat can feel challenging at first, since there's a lot of things to keep track of. But, they all mesh together well enough, and it feels satisfying to master all the systems and mechanics, and optimise your team and strategy. There's also a lot of settings to customise the difficulty of your campaign. So I suggest lowering enemy health and damage a bit, until you've got a good grasp on things. But be warned, combat can feel repetitive, once you get into the game.

These kinds of games are usually light on story, but this one has a narrative plot with a few core characters involved, that drives the whole game. It's not very complex or compelling, but it's competently written and enough to do the job.

The base game is strong and engaging enough, and there's plenty of room for growth and complexity and new additions. And there's already a Roadmap for 2024. If you're a fan of turn-based strategy games, then I do recommend this. If you end up not liking it, you can always get a refund (as long as playtime is <2 hours and its within 14 days of purchase).

I think this game is a lot better than it gets credit for. My 50+ hours is just from my first, pre-release play through, and I've just been waiting for the Q2 update with the new character class to start my second.
