Report a translation problem
You CAN change custom heroes' portraits, you CANNOT change story heroes' appearances.
The instructions are simple and in your game files: My Documents / Fell Seal / How to Add Custom Portraits.

Edit: As you can see below, apparently it is "possible, but not really recommended".
Look for this
You can technically change their sprites the same way, but that's almost guaranteed to crash your game during cutscenes, as the story characters have special story frames that regular characters don't have and when the cutscenes try to load them, things might go terribly wrong. So that's definitely not advisable.
and no worrys sprites are fine i would not try to play with those yet, but i am very picky when we talk about portraits so im just going to play with that for now and make my team have custom portraits
