Advice on Class Unlocking
I mostly understand how things are working.

Some clarification - in order to level up ( faster ) in a specific class, does THAT character need to be using abilities of that class? And how much does this effect all other characters.

For example to unlock gunner I need level 4 merc, ranger, knight something like that.

So, if I have a character I would like to become a gunner and I need 2 levels of knight - am I best off SWITCHING that character to a Knight for 2 levels?

I hope my question makes sense. It is part clarifying how it works, also curious how you guys approach it.

Great time waster game on my laptop

Oops I meant to say a character I would like to *become a Gunner* above.

Yes, it's by far fastest to switch them into the class you will need. Otherwise you will need to wait a long time, for the trickle down effect of your other party members to get you enough points in a given class.
If you have the dlc, you can also do missions for AP. There's usually one mission in each area that gives a decent AP as reward.
Hey Sneaky Guy:

See this guide for details on how AP and Exp gains work:

By the way, what abilities you use has no change on what AP gains you get, what your main equipped class determines that.
