That is not to say there is no side-quests in Fell Seal though, but it's not the "main focus" of the game.
The current build has only 1 "optional battle" currently, but we have 3 more planned for "mid game content" and at least 4 more for "late game content". We'll probably end up with a few more afterwards, but we'll have to see how that goes.
To clarfiy some of the “what else is there to do in the game”, one impetus for doing “Patrols” (random encounters on maps you’ve already done the story on) is that there are a variety of treasures / secrets you can obtain. Oftentimes these treasures are obtainable only after getting certain equipment or abilities, so it’s “similar” to side quests in the sense that it’s something good and useful to do outside of the storyline. I think it can be fun trying to figure out “how do I get that treasure” or some are simple to get, but are just behind a difficult encounter. Also, there is a crafting system, so sometimes players may want to do some patrols to get materials to crft certain equipment (or even special “badges” which allow secret classes). Lastly, there have been mentioned plans of “endgame content” which will also help players get mileage out of their playthroughs.
