Steal system optimization
Final Fantasy Tactics had steal equipment, then Final Fantasy Tactics advanced had it as well but you had specific enemies equip a rare or unique weapon after you stole a large number of generic weapons from that specific unit. I think is another good way to hide unique items than using treasure chest(maybe the boss of that stage has a hidden weapon that you will need to steal maybe 10 generic ones before you get it). Maybe adding the steal weapon to Scoundrel. Also, one thing I learned from stealing items in other games, specifically referencing Dragon Age original, you can steal cursed items that will hinder the stats of the thief for the duration of that battle, or the thief gets his/her hands in a trap while trying to pick pocket and takes damage. Also with the steal weapon ability, I think there should also be the ability to disarm a unit so that they have to take a turn re-equipping the weapon that has been disarmed, and that can also have a chance for that unit to re-equip a unique weapon if applicable. Also re-equip will be an option in the actions menu, which I think it is needed since you should be able to adjust elemental weapons in a battle as needed at the cost of a turn. I think weapons and "some" accessories should be steal-able, exception will be boots and armor since realistically it makes no sense in combat to steal someone's breastplate. Some ideas to optimize the stealing system. Also with the steal weapon/accessory, maybe cash drop can be lowered since people can sell those stolen equipment for even faster cash.

To quote myself from a forum post:
As for stealing, 6 Eyes made a pretty conscious decision to NOT have stealing of weapons / equipement like in FFT. While yes, it's cool and satisfying to nab cool equipment from the AI as you play the game, it also gives a certain amount of "so if I want to properly min-max my playthrough, I have to steal X on this encounter and Y on this encounter" etc, and becomes a headache. I certainly recall reading "Stealing Guides" on FFT Advance which gave a layout of "you gotta steal this here or else you'll miss this!" Really, taking that level of stress of stealing off is a good design move.

So yeah, 6 Eyes really doesn't want to have in that level of stealing in the game.

Now, I understand that some of your suggestions include some more general "stealing" (such as the "10 generic ones" comment) but in a sense, that's almost the same as their crafting system and "steal component" mechanic, which is what they're more interested in.

Now I know this isn't stealing, but there IS a Cursed Shield in the game somewhere ^_*

As for disarming, while that was certainly a cool feature in the FFT games, again, to help simplify / streamline the game, 6 Eyes decided on "just" having Cripple / Mute. I know that there are distinctions between Disarm and Cripple / Mute, but since Fell Seal doesn't have the "change equipment" option in battle, they've opted to cut that system in comparison to FFT.

As for steal-able accessories, again, that general idea is kind of covered in the "Steal Component" mechanic (craft stuff) and "Steal Gold" ability (be able to buy stuff). Stealing is something which is to be rewarded in Fell Seal, but 6 Eyes has been very careful to not make it feel like "you're missing out" if you don't focus on it.

So, interesting ideas, but 6 Eyes has decided to differ from FFT with how they handle stealing.

That is a pretty good answer. The curse item idea was more in the lines to give a punishment for a failed stealing attempt. Right now the system is a solid success or fail, but by adding a 3rd component of [fail and] may add a little more dept. I apologize, I completely missed the FAQ, thanks for the reiteration.

Best thing about stealing in a SRPG is that if you overleveled for an area and enemies have better equipment than you can buy at shops, you can steal equipment to catch up with the enemy.

Guillaume-

First, I would recommend not commenting on a particularly old thread and "necro-ing" it.

Secondly, there is no stealing of equipment in this game, so what you said is not correct.

The description of the Scoundrel says:

"They are adept at acquiring what others possess."

If stealing equipment is not in the game I suppose this is a typo / translation error? Hopefully it can be fixed in the next patch.

It clearly says in the beginning of the thread that stealing of equipment is not available. You CAN steal other things such as Potions or crafting materials or buffs.

There is no "fix" to be had, nor is this system going to change.

I am not seeing where there needs to be a fix. Its your own fault if you assume that it only means "equipment" and even so.. you can steal consumable (charges) from the enemy... like a Potion charge for example. You can also steal components, which can be used to craft gear.

I am not sure where "acquiring what others possess" explicitly says that this means weapon and armor.
