What am I missing with the Marked class?
I've yet to level it, and only looked at the skill tree. But I'm not really seeing the appeal. At least over regular classes.

It seems like a Dark Knight equivalent where you gain power when party members go down, and you lose HP when attacking, which seems interesting, but feels like it HAS to be paired with a pocket healer, right?

The marked class has great stat gains on level up, and a solid gear selection. It also has a number of spell-like skills, which can be used while muted. which are scaled off ATK and MND, and which can deal both holy and unholy damage. Basically, you have a tank class with high hit points, heavy armor, solid weapons... but you also retain the ability to swim, your speed gain is normal, i.e. higher than other tanks', and you have skills that can deal damage and restore you HP/MP.

By itself, it's a tank chassis, and by adding a secondary class you can increase its survivability sky high, or make a damage dealer who can stay in the thick of things.

---------

Personal anecdote. I did the final battles with five level 99 characters, and the main character at level 60. I made her a marked/mender with dual cast, economy and mana absorption. She got 9 levels, and did not go down once. The one character who went down did so while she was on the other side of the map.

This is not to say that she should be a healer. This is to say that she can survive among enemies 40 levels higher.

That sounds great, to be honest. Other than Mender, are there other healing classes that would pair well with one?

Marked is basically a Damage Utility class. That is, it only deals in damage, but in that role it has options that provide a lot of utility.

All the abilities use the formula (ATK+MND), allowing Marked primary to be built in whatever way best suits the secondary skillset you choose to pair with it while maintaining reasonable performance. Holy Bolt / Dark Bolt are the bread-and-butter attacks, offering near-Spell range and a low MP cost. Holy Beam / Wrathful Beam hit the target's RES stat instead of DEF (unlike the aforementioned Bolt skills), meaning at least one of Marked's attacks should be good for hitting the opponent's weaker defense. Wrathful Blow lets it spike damage in a desperate situation, and the Burst skills offer strong AOE if Kyrie is surrounded. Execute helps compliment this - making it much easier for Kyrie to confirm kill setups with that juicy extra bonus damage. Avenger is basically more of a built-in comeback mechanic - if its active and providing bonuses, its probably not a good sign for your current battle, but it means that Kyrie might help you brute-force your way to a victory in a pinch, should you be using her in her Marked class, since she's a required deploy on essentially every encounter.

You shouldn't need any extra healing over whatever you're bringing by default, since the moves that deal in recoil damage are ones that Kyrie won't need to cast often. What you want to pair her skillset with are skillsets that cover the holes in her utility - Fellblade is a great example. Templar, Gadgeteer, Alchemystic, and maybe Knight or Mercenary also come to mind. She can put Mender in that secondary slot just fine as well, of course, but she doesn't need it personally and there are usually other units that are better suited to that role.

For both my Anadine and Kyrie, I LOOOOOVEEEE using [Life Font] on them. By giving them "free healing" just for moving, they can go around the map, use moves with backlash on em, and not be phased by it. I love how "when I need that extra bit of damage" I can use these strong doubule-edged moves and get the job done.

I have been using her as a Marked/Mender and she has been great. Basically I think of her as a battle cleric type class. I have been debating getting double cast on her, but I don't think she needs it. lol

The small catch is: the Marked abilities are all "skills" and not spells, and therefore cannot be double-casted. Obviously this would work with Mender however.

I just made her into a frontline spellcaster (she can totally tank and her drain hp skill is amazing). Anadine's more of the traditional high dmg melee tank. Spells are extremely useful against monsters and generic mages die too quickly if you wanna try getting too close.

Speaking of Anadyne, any tips on how to handle her class? It seems similar to Marked but far more melee focused.

Vicious-

With Anadine, just what I recommended earlier in the thread: get Knight’s [Life Font] on her and she has a ton of self healing to counter the self-damaging moves.

Edit: for more info on your inquiry, I would recommend checking out this thread (spoiler warning):
