GOG: macOS build not recognizing Xbox One controller
Posting here because the devs are more likely to see this... (I have the game here on Steam as well)

Tried to play the game on my 2019 MacBook Pro with a dedicated AMD Vega GPU and a Bluetooth Xbox One controller and the game doesn't recognize it... I have 9 other games installed through Galaxy on macOS that all recognize the controller and use it perfectly fine (no drivers, just paired through the OS)... is this a known issue? The only thing I have running when I launch the game is Galaxy, Steam is not open

Besides that, the game is liquid smooth and works with a mouse and keyboard

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Mawthra-

As a starting point, did you check out the common problems and solutions post in bug reporting?

https://steamcommunity.com/app/699170/discussions/1/1679189548063774352/

To begin with, have you tried this:

For your controller, what kind do you use? I personally use a wired XBOX 360 controller and haven't had issues. One POSSIBLE fix (shot in the dark here) is going into your Steam client's controller settings (In steam, go to top left corner "settings" / controller/ General controller settings) and looking for the "XBOX Configuration Support" check box. Try playing the game with this box checked / un-checked and report back if this works. Don't ask me the full technical details, but this particular setting can mess with various games and how they act with the controller.

Secondly, do you have an antivirus program? If so, adding an exception for Fell Seal can make certain things run smoother.

Let me know how this goes, and we’ll look into things further if the above doesn’t work.

Thanks for the response... that quote was referencing Steam, I've installed it through Galaxy and no, no antivirus installed on the Mac and the built-in Firewall is off
Gotcha. Do you have any other devices plugged into your computer at the same time as your controller? Are you making sure to start the game while you have the controller already plugged in? Have you tried unplugging and re-plugging the controller while the game is active to see it that “jogs” the game into recognizing?

As another longshot, you said you don’t have other apps (such as Steam) open while playing, that also includes nothing in the background like Epic / Blizzard / Bethesda (etc) open as well, correct? (Just a longshot as other launchers can sometimes have weird interference...I know that it I have Steam open at the same time as Epic my controller goes wonky)

No other devices plugged in, no... only thing "connected" when I'm launching the game is the Xbox One controller via Bluetooth

Yes, I make sure the controller is a solid white Xbox logo (not blinking or anything) before I launch the game... I have tried powering down the controller while the game is running and turning it back on, doesn't do anything... the strange part about it that I forgot to mention, also, is that the controller will work ONE TIME at the "Press a button to continue" screen, but after that... nothing

And no, only launchers I have on it are Steam and Galaxy and when trying to run the game, only Galaxy is open... Steam is closed/quit (not closed the window and left it running, but Steam > Quit Steam, type of quit)

Also, FWIW, I'm on High Sierra (10.14.6) on and admin account and all that
Ok, can you see if you have any error logs? They'd be found in:

Looks like they're in your home directory

[~/Fell Seal/saves] $ ls
slot-1.sav slot-2.sav slot-3.sav slot00.sav

For PC, it's kept in "My Documents / Fell Seal / Saves"

For your case, it would be ~ / Fell Seal (obviously not the saves folder, but look for any error logs which have spawned). IF you have any error logs, you can either copy-paste it in a comment or send the error log via email to 6 Eyes at "Contact@6EyesStudio.com".

Note that through all of this, 6 Eyes can take a look when available and see what input they have (I am just the forum moderator).

I'll look into that... thanks for your help!

Checked the whole "~/Fell Seal" folder and all sub-directories and no error logs... oh well, I'll keep trying to troubleshoot it

Hmm, I admit I can't think of anything else right now. Conan's suggestions should have cover the basics.

Have you tried launching the game "not through Gog Galaxy", just to see if it makes any difference with the controller, as sometimes launchers can do weird things (such as the most current fix on Steam being to change a setting about your controller in the Steam launcher)?

I think I'm narrowing in on the root of the problem... I noticed that in Steam that my Xbox One controller is showing up twice in the controller settings in Big Pic mode... no other controllers are either plugged in or paired... if I power off the controller, both entries in the list disappear... if I power it on, both entries reappear... I've tried manually un-pairing the controller in the OS and re-pairing and even tried pairing a few other Bluetooth Xbox One controllers and they all do the same thing... very odd

So all in all, I think it's more an issue of the game not using "the correct" controller with this phantom controller showing up... as I said earlier, the game (launching direct, through Galaxy or through Steam) will respond to the controller at the initial "Press a button to continue" screen, but after that... nothing

Oh well, more troubleshooting for me today ;)

But I don't think it's *your* game that's the issue anymore, just the way your game is dealing with the presence of multiple controllers while other games just pick the right one, I guess

Interesting, so Steam client was causing the "ghost controller" to be recognized? I thought your game was on the GoG build and that Steam was closed.

Yah, after I posted this... it dawned on me... it still doesn't work launching it direct or through Galaxy... so that Steam issue of the controller showing up twice may not be the cause :(

Windows version on Galaxy and Steam work perfect... it's just the macOS version that's giving me the grief... wonder if the App Store version would suffer the same fate... not willing to buy another copy, though, to find out... already bought two ;)

I am having a similar problem and read everything I could and tried both the check/uncheck box option and both a PS4 controller and Xbox One controller. The game stops recognizing the controller after the "Press any button" screen. The controllers work on other games but not on this game after the initial menu. Is there a solution for this yet? I'm on OSX 10.15.7. Thanks.

My knowledge of gamepads isn't the best (it's the only 3rd party plugin we use), but as I understand it, Mac doesn't seem to support Xinput especially well and most problems we've seen reported about controllers on Macs seem to end up being about various Xbox controllers, which pretty much only use XInput (at least with our plugin) in general.

I fear there might not be a way to make them work correctly on a Mac, at least with the controller plugin we're using.
