This is a good game, that is being held back by not the best locomotion. I did not finish the game, but after 1.3 hours I can say it is fun to play ... but the controls could use some polish. You may think this game is just using a water gun and shooting at the fires, but it's a lot more than that.

There's this zany, crazy world where seeminly every voiced male, especially the mayor, is a big perv. You will literally be pumping his statue *ick and making it squirt ... water (who knows what paper males squirt). And as soon as you're finished with one kind of activity, you're doing an entirely different one. From shooting your water gun, to using your axe, to picking up debris, to throwing water balloons, to shooting cannons, to using a water shotgun (and all have different reloads).

The boss fights were done well, except again, for the controls which just weren't as polished as they should be. So some of the difficulty is just getting used to the odd controls. And I had a few problems with teleporting. Sometimes it would show and other times not (in the same spot). I don't know if this is a widespread problem, I can only report it happened to me and I hope there's a future update with free locomotion.

Paperville Panic is an action-adventure VR exploration game, with a comical twist. You are a rookie firefighter in a town made entirely of paper, and on your first day on the job the town experiences it’s first fire. The gameplay involves fighting the flames in this quirky paper town, encountering hilarious characters along the way. The game is unique, fun to play, and the atmospheric sounds complete the immersion. Alongside being enjoyable to play, the game is incredibly detailed in it’s design and I found myself inclined to stop fighting the flames to check out all the objects in the room. The game is in early-access so I’m excited to see the upcoming developments.

Probably the best paper-based virtual-reality firefighting game I've played this year.

This is a really cool concept for a game! Trying to save people made out of paper whilst watching the world burn is ridiculously fun and it ignited a weird dark side in me... I enjoyed watching the people burn, running around like headless chooks... only in the game... of course...

Not a big VR player usually, but it was recommended by some friends so thought why not! Didn't make me feel sick, it felt very smooth, so double ++

If you've got VR, get amongst it, you won't regret it!

the game is OKAY but the controls really get in the way of playing at time (on index at least). the amount of times my gun would holster itself was super annoying, caused me to fail a couple of times

sound mixing is also pretty bad, everything was super loud even at half settings with a ton of clipping on any voice work, gave me a headache after a while so had to play in short stints.

maybe worth it if you get for cheap but wouldn't go out of my way to recommend.

TLDR; This is already is a pretty good game with a LOT of potential, that needs a bit more content, but worth it in its current form.


Game has around 2-3hrs of story levels, Each being different on its "mechanics", i was expecting at least 2 or 3 levels like the demo/1st level (run around in a building saving people and putting out fires) but only the 1st one was like that, after that each level works different, as in you need to do different things, this kinda screwed with me because some levels you walk until you reach an "action" point where you cant move, and enemies start coming in waves and you had to take cover within your designated play area... but then other levels once the "presentation" was over you could teleport and move way more freely around the VR playspace.

The last level is the best by far imo, the most "campaing like", when it was over i STILL WANTED MORE! that obviously is a good sign, but it also means it felt unfinished, sure the last mission does feel like a final mission... but id absolutely would have loved to have at least a couple more "pure" firefighter levels, instead of almost immediately going from fighting fire, to to fighting the evil cronies of a mad man in a conspiracy that goes to the highest place in the goverment.

The guns feel like 1 use and be done with, way underused. Different types of guns i recall: auto turret that has to be aimed and reloaded, double barrel balloon shotgun, pump action pistol, automatic reload pistol, the axe and the semiautomatic pistol and granades. so, a decent ammount of guns, that basically you once on 1 level and never see it again.

There are a few different enemies, like the ones that rush towards you, the ones that shoot missiles from afar, and the ones that shoot at you, and of course the level bosses.

If "weapon selection" was a thing, it would be obvious to make each weapon extra effective against a different kind of enemy... and having the player change them on the fly depending on what wave the game is throwing at you, obviously not forcing the player to change, but adding extra damage because affinity or something. (i dont get why getting the paper enemies wet with the gun wouldnt work at least a bit, why it HAD to be with a granade or viceversa)

A couple more indicators would be welcomed, like with the final boss i wish it had an indicator that my bullets where not doing anything as i spent like 10 minutes avoiding him and shooting him without it doing anything until realizing the "slap attack" was meant to be kind of a queue for me to slap him... with the axe :/ so it would trigger his move where i could actually damage him.

Dialogue is pretty funny (Subtitles should be added!) and i liked all the voices, the 4th wall breaking was great!

I feel the settings had very little to choose from, and of course, there is only Teleport movement, which is a bummer, but being the kind of game it is, its fine imo. (but having more movement options would be better)

I dont know the "roadmap" for this game, it feels unfinished, BUT it already has a respectable amount of content and it truly shows potential! I bought it on a 60% off sale, and i feel it was more than an adaquate price! ~3hrs of gameplay, good graphics, good performance, nice audio (voices music and sounds), funny dialogue and a LOT of potential.

Recommended.

As with many young boys, I was always fascinated by these people who were called firefighters. At first it was the big red trucks with loud sirens that were driving down the street at full speed. Any cars, trucks or other vehicles in front of them were moving away as fast as possible while pedestrians became immobile for a few seconds until all the fire engines made their way through. And what courage to stand in front of devilish flames that emit extreme heat for hours or even days at a time! Finally, my dream came through, I was accepted as a rookie firefighter in the small town of Paperville, where all people are made of . . . Paper! Oh no, there are fires emerging all around town. It’s Paperville Panic!

Paperville Panic is an FPS / adventure Virtual Reality game, developed and published by Ultimerse, were you play a rookie firefighter in a town where the inhabitants are made of paper. The game was released on 20th of September on Steam.
The game starts at the fire station, where your new boss decides to welcome you by taking a day off! Fortunately, both of you will be able to communicate through talkie walkies. The fire station is basically a small and fun tutorial. You’ll learn how to teleport, interact with objects, and shoot ducks with your water pistol, just like a stand at a fair.

From here, you’ll get to town where you’ll directed by your boss to a mission. Make your way to the house with the shield and shoot at it with your water pistol until the shield is filled up with water. Not only will you have to put out the fire in the building, but you will also need to make sure that you help the poor buggers on fire by shooting at them with one of your water weapons. Some of them will be trapped under debris which needs to be removed in order to save them. On some occasions, you’ll have to use an axe to break down doors to be able to move forward. However, just be careful when using the axe, as you might accidentally chop the head off the individual you try to save (I did that a few times)! Also, you’ll have to avoid getting hit by missiles or avoiding explosions, otherwise, you too will be on fire and might even die! In some other levels, you’ll be engaged in fierce gun battles against bad paper people. Plenty of squatting and moving left and right to avoid their fire bullets. Good exercise too, I might add!

Each of the levels will finish with a boss fight and you have an additional unique weapon to use at your disposal: the water bomb (remember those - such classic weapons!). Anyway, you’ll be able to throw them at the enemy or use them as ammunition to load your water shotgun or the Gatling water machine gun, for example! Not easy to shoot and reload or shoot and throw simultaneously, let me tell you! It will take a good 5 to 10 minutes to beat them.

Graphically, the game looks great, and the soundtrack is really fun too. In terms of the controls, they are fine, and I had no problem teleporting myself from one place to another. The other thing I like about this game is the narratives, which are full of humour and jokes.

Paper Fire Rookie (Formerly Paperville Panic) is the most mediocre VR game I've ever played, but I actually enjoyed it and finished it in a single sitting. Definitely agree with their review in the description from The VR Base of "There is nothing to dislike" which pretty much wraps it up as there's nothing really wrong here but nothing spectacularly right.

The action is pretty good, and the jokes/memes/references in the dialogue are clever and actually made me stifle a laugh once or twice!

Of the 5 bosses only two of them didn't drag on a painful amount, but they were all done well otherwise. Also just change the name and put the Paperville Panic part in the description or something.

While the concept is interesting and I played the game through once, there are a few areas that really require polish for the game to be worth full price. In particular, the controls leave a lot to be desired, especially using the Valve Knuckles controllers.

Many reviews of this game mention the teleport-only controls, and for good reason. To move around, you need to push the analog stick (or touchpad), aim to your intended location, and release. However, if you accidentally move the stick sideways while doing this, you will end up rotated. Given that the game often expects you to move quickly to reach a goal or avoid an attack, getting turned around is far too common. To make things worse, there is actually no way to turn in place, and trying to intentionally turn yourself while teleporting can be a bit of a crapshoot due to the sensitivity of the turning control. This makes dodging enemies and attacks much harder than it needs to be.

Trying to hold on to things in this game in general is another issue. The axe requires you to have a constant grip on the trigger to hold, which is okay for short periods but not for any appreciable length of time, and actually results in a very uncomfortable grip if you are trying to simultaneously move around. Mercifully, the guns only need to be grabbed from the holster and then remain in your hand while you shoot. Unfortunately, with the Knuckles at least, squeezing the grip at all (which is easy to do in the excitement of the game) will cause you to drop your gun, leaving you defenseless against those missiles that you were just trying to shoot down.

The humor in the story portions of the game is quite alright, but the one-liners that enemies and NPCs shout during gameplay are very repetitive and quickly overstay their welcome. Hearing the same quip for the 10th time when I'm already frustrated by the controls is not conducive to a fun experience.

That said, I had a lot of fun moments in this game, and I would change my recommendation to a positive one if the controls had a bit of an overhaul.

I just finished the title, and its rather short but fun. In this game, the player play as a rookie firefighter, who is issued with a water gun that can be sprayed at fire to pull them out. In the first level, the player can find an axe, which can be used to break down doors to rescue the survivor.

This is not a wave shooter. in this game, player will be navigating linear paths to pull out fire and rescue people along the way, which is rather straightforward. The game uses teleportation, and in some situation, you will have to shift your body to dodge the fire projectiles (or just shoot them out of the way). There are also bosses which you can fight too.

The game is rather short, about an hour of gameplay length, but the developer will be adding more stages which will increase the length and expand the content of the game.I will be returning to this title few months later after the update has been out.
