True Literature Club: Short story with a unique angle. It adds the festival event and gives the characters endings. Monika is still very much "self aware", but the story explains why a particular change was made.
The Purist Mod: Long story with an amazing "true ending" that fits well with the unmodified DDLC. Unlike other mods I've played this one has it's own messages to discover through the story. You first meet Monika in her "space room" where she reluctantly agrees to help you "save one of them". However, to achieve the "true ending" you must prove that "happiness can be found here".
Monikas Before Story: The name is misleading as it's not only about Monika, but rather alters the entire story to where the MC is the club president, Monika is the "childhood friend", Sayori is the girl the MC tutors in math while Natsuki and Yuri don't really change all that much. I've not gone through every route, but there was this sense of "Is the MC self aware?" as I played through Monikas 1st story. There is also a way to unlock a 2nd hidden game that requires you moving the character files at one point.
Mods that I suggest are:
Salvation: A good extension of the story and a "what if Sayori didn't die"? There still is a sense of Monika trying to take control of the game to make the MC fall for her. A few horror aspects in the mod as well which I absolutely LOVE.
Relapse: MC re-lives the same week from the base game and is tasked with saving the girls. Can't really say anything to spoil the game, so just play it.
New Eyes: A SUPER good Yuri POV mod that takes you through both Act 1 and Act 2 of the base game. Yes, that means we get to see all of the cutting and self-harm from Yuri's POV, which is SUPER disturbing...ESPECIALLY in the 2nd act.
Fallen Angel: Yuri route mod which deals with Yuri's issues in a sensitive manner. Once again, even though Monika's not sentient...she still doesn't want MC to be with Yuri. I would explain one part, but that's something to experience yourself.
Any of M's mods: M is a guy who makes DDLC mods. What kind? The kind that you'll like. What would that be? Find out for yourself.
Return To The Portrait: REALLY good mod that deals with the meta aspects of the game. This does mean file manipulation, but the game will tell you what to do and when to do it. Whenever there's a stop with a blank text box, that means that you have to take action.
Those are just a few mods of the many that are on the site AND the Reddit list.
- Tons of gameplay hours. The Fruits of the Literature Club has 4 different routes, depending on which girl you're most interested in. Different routes, different stories, different endings.
- New MC. The developer states that "He will not be frail and cowardly shut-in like the original story portrayed him. This will be a new and more exciting and mysterious MC". Not only he's different personality-wise, but his past is one of the main aspects of this mod. The word "mysterious" is there for a reason. Something stops him from talking about his past, but what exactly stops him is up to you to discover.
- A completely different approach to the story. Comedy, Drama, Romance, Horror - these are the main "tags" most DDLC mods tend to follow. However, The Fruits of the Literature Club is not the same. Like, at all. Sure, there's still some romance/drama/comedy elements, but most of the time it's like you're watching a detective movie mixed with a bunch of action scenes. Absolutely love it.
