Why is the player count so low?
The graphics, gameplay looks good. I'm scratching my head L4D2 have 20K players online. Why can't this one maintain a huge player base.

Before I start this, I need you to understand something: I might be on Steam but I am not a Valve fan, not by any meaningful measurement.

To paraphrase Gandalf: Please do not mistake me for a Gaben simp.

Because as much as I hate it, the answer to your question is: Because Valve nail everything that matters to most gamers, and Rebellion don't.

-----------------------------------------

L4D2 has a reasonable entry price and LOADS of mods. GENERALLY a popular game with mods will have a stupidly-long life span.

ZA4DW is offensively (there's no other word for it) expensive for what it is, and doesn't easily allow modding at a scale anywhere near L4D2.

Further, L4D2 is on sale all the time and ZA4DW rarely is.

Valve are industry darlings because they're generally competent and have their finger on the pulse of gaming.

Rebellion are B-tier devs who think they're Triple-A because of the admittedly-large amount of research they do, and they generally treat the community like dirt.

On a personal note, I have always received a reply from Valve. I dig that, even if I didn't like what it said sometimes. I have NEVER received a reply from Rebellion in my entire life. I obviously do not dig that.

I'd rather play ZA4DW over L4D2 anytime, but that's not how most folks feel.

It really is a shame that more people do not play it. I have played the game over 4,500 hours now (I am a retiree, over 70, so I have the time). I play it almost daily (horde) and I still find it exciting, challenging and fun to play. One tip, I have found that many more players are on the Western Europe server, almost any time of the day compared to the U.S. servers. Depending upon the time of day where I live (Eastern time) I will switch between U.S. servers to the Western Europe server to find a game. As a side note, just my observation, the players on the Western Europe server are better, more polite, and quit/remove you, less often than the U.S. players. Best of luck.
i think having denuvo on the game is not a invitation for mods, so the community soon dries out after a discount sale
Because unlike the fantastic Zombie Army Trilogy this game commits one of the worst offences, that is by making the person who bought the game feeling like they have been conned.
There was over £180 of DLC at one point for this game. WOW, I just checked that has gone up to £261 now! I really wanted to support the company after the first few games but this one leaves such a bad taste.

The DLC practice is one of the worst I experienced in any game, totally dividing and destroying its own playerbase... They did it with previous titles aswell, never buying a game again from them

Back 4 Blood is a decent game..:steamsad: better then all the hate it gets.. perfect or what was wanted/expected NO.. getting past all that and getting her on sale is worth it.. just my humble opinion..:steammocking:
All this said, you can still get a game going with quickplay almost instantly, so the game is far from dead. It is a really solid coop game and tons of fun despite the various issues the company has.
