Well, the reason I asked is because, to my knowledge, the DLC basically only adds more "classic mode" stuff. I've played "classic mode" for 2 minutes or so -- which does make it rank higher than the other extra "modes" that the game came with, but obviously I won't be getting the DLC.
The game itself was good, but all the extra stuff...
The first classic mode is very good, the 8-bit soundtrack alone is fantastic.
I've not played the second one yet.
One of them is that with the release of the DLC new achievements were added to the base game, so now you have achievements behind a paywall, which a lot of people (rightfully) didn't like.
Many people also wanted to play as Dominique in the base game rather than in the Classic mode.
But probably the most common reason - people didn't like the classicvania controls. Not being able to change jump direction, instadeaths from getting knocked back into a pit - all that is present in the DLC. Although, they added a few abilities you can unlock (like double jump) that will help a lot with platforming, so it's not as big of an issue later in the game.
So I'd say it's basically depends if you can tolerate Classicvania's controls or not. If you can, Dominique's Curse is amazing, it is exactly what you'd expect from a Castlevania 2-like game mode. If not, probably better to avoid it.
They could improve the DLC with difficulty settings though, just like they did in Classic mode 1 where on Easy (if I remember correctly) you don't get knocked back from damage. Not sure why they didn't.
Simon's Quest was quite an interesting game, but it had tons of issues, and was pretty much impossible to complete without extensive guides and lots of patience. Classic 2 is just a direct upgrade over Simon's Quest, fixing everything it did wrong.
Sadly, not going to happen. We are all wrapped up on new content for the game. Time to focus all our efforts on the next Bloodstained title!
Please make it a pixel art game, don't use the same 3D style, we all want a gorgeous pixel art new Igavania, make it a 2D-HD game like Octopath Traveler, it will be the best thing possible!
Speak for yourself.
I can see why people hate the classicvania controls but that's what we all had growing up with old castlevania. I don't like it either but i can deal with it as long as the game itself is good.
I have only played through and beat the main game. I havent touched hard mode and i havent touched any of the extra modes much if at all. Way i see it, i have already beaten the game so why do the extra stuff?
Achievements are completely useless and i see them as one of the most pointless things added to gaming ever. I have never understood the need for them nor do i understand this feeling of satisfaction people get from it. To eahc their own i guess.
