I can't do the sword power slash technique

I can't do it neither with the d pad nor joystick. Not even once. It feels bugged. Other techniques work. So it should be down, down back, back, forward+attack.

Should be doable, I just hopped in and did it on d pad and joystick on my controller.
Attack should come after the forward input and not together

Edit: looks like attack can happen at the same time

Can you only do some techniques with some weapons? For example I can do the CRITICAL SWING with the THORN WHIP but not with the WHIP. I can do FORCE BLAST with the RED UMBRELLA but with no other weapon tagged as SWORDS.

Its been awhile since i played the game, but basically if I recall, certain weapons will have the techniques on them. Killing enemies with the techniques gains exp into learning them. Once you master the technique you can use it with any weapon in the class.

Oh looked into my technique list there are 2 techniques that are exclusive to particular weapons.

Its been awhile but yes, certain techniques are locked behind a weapon until its mastered then you can do it any weapon of the same type

Do you have to use the wiki to know which techniques work with which weapons? I noticed when you first pick up a technique in the bookshelf it tells you. But in the journal it's just "Swords" or "Shoes" etc.

Yes, if you want to know quickly. Alternatively you can collect the books throughout the game or just test each one. Once you master the techniques they usually become usable for every weapon of that type (a few exceptions).

For example, The sword technique Power Slash. D, D+L, L, R, Attack (when facing right). Is only usable (and therefore masterable) by Ulfberht Sword, Hofud, and the Ridill until you master it.

There's two sections in the archive, one is techniques where it just says the generic weapon type and displays how much you've mastered it and then there is journal which actually lists the weapon it can be first used with.
