Bloodless turned out to be relatively popular post Boss Revenge. Gebel and Alfred would also both fit the bill in their own ways. There's a fair few options, and several who have more progress (That we know of) than Dominique. Though Gremory Mode seems highly unlikely.
Mominique? There's no such character as far as I know, and the only familial backstory we have on Dominique is that her late parents were both exorcists ten years prior to the events of Ritual of the Night.
It may be possible that Dominique is the third playable character. The idea you're describing does sound like an idea for a DLC storyline if she atones for what she's done or forgets it as a result of amnesia. It would certainly enable her to make a return appearance, though in what role? It might sound appealing and it sounds similar to the idea I suggested in another thread for a DLC mode with Bloodless as the protagonist.
Other than that though, what else can be done with Dominique that the developers can think of? Beyond Ritual of the Night and Curse of the Moon II. As much as it's possible, I personally don't think there is much else that can be done with her. Her story in Ritual of the Night feels like it has concluded with her and Bael's defeat, and her being in Curse of the Moon II is part of an alternative storyline.
If she were to return in Ritual of the Night, there needs to be a way for her to have escaped. She had practically merged herself with Bael in the last boss fight, so she'd probably need to be separated from him or become his mortal vessel. And if she is the third playable character and the idea of escaping from the castle is done, there would need to be some plot elements driving it. Still, it does not really feel like a strong idea for a DLC in my opinion.
It's certainly possible that Dominique could have been slated as a playable character and it might be possible that she still is. Though I don't think there is much emphasis on making her playable.
There are definitely some characters in the game who could get their own modes, with Bloodless being the most obvious in my opinion from how popular she is and how much we're talking about her. Following Bloodless, I would say that Bathin and Andrealphas could be next since they were also in Boss Revenge. And then maybe Alfred and Gebel. Even the idea of Gremory getting her own mode could work if the developers were to make it happen, though I agree she might not be likely as she doesn't really give off the vibe of being a playable character beyond Boss Revenge.
That could be.
Something else I wanted to add onto one of my prior posts was an idea of how Dominique could make a return appearance. The idea I had in mind was that there would probably be a movement among the Church seeking to have her canonized for her role in the events of Ritual of the Night. The priests/priestesses and exorcists of this movement do not believe the account put forward by Miriam and Johannes even though Zangetsu can vouch for the two of them. So the followers that this movement attracts would decree Miriam and Johannes as enemies of the Church. However, there is actually an inner plot within the movement that was formulated by its leading figures and key members to bring Dominique back. So they open a portal to try and save her from the depths of the underworld where she was banished to upon her and Bael's defeat.
This could go wrong in one of three ways. First, the most simplest is for a corrupted Dominique to still be attached to Bael upon being summoned. Thus leading to the ritual's practitioners dying by her hands with the surrounding region being subjected to her wrath. The Church sends exorcists in to try and defeat her upon learning of what happened and the movement canonizing her claims it is all the fault of Miriam and Johannes. But the Church realizes they are having trouble dealing with Dominique and contact the two of them for help, enabling them to find out what went wrong and why.
Second, instead of summoning Dominique, they accidentally conjure Bael who is using her body as his mortal vessel, like I said in a previous post. Allowing him to present himself as her so he could lead the movement in an attempt to overthrow the Church and destroy the world. And because Miriam, Johannes, and Zangetsu fought against the efforts to summon him in Ritual of the Night, he would have them targeted by the movement. The trio would then need to fight off the movement and work together with the Church to stop their plans. This could bring back some of the bosses from Ritual of the Night, particularly Gremory and maybe a few other demons who might have been aware of Dominique's involvement in summoning Bael the first time, such as Bathin and Valefar based on where they are fought and where Miriam finds Dominique.
Third, Dominique is successfully brought back without her attachment to Bael and is not his mortal vessel. But she either slays the ritual's participants, convinces them to serve her will, or uses her powers and whatever powers she's acquired from her Shard and Bael to brainwash them into helping her conjure Bael. This method is quite similar to the first two, just that it gives Dominique more awareness of what she is doing and control over the situation.
In each of these scenarios, it might be possible that one of the participants in this ritual has ill intent and means to summon Bael or one of the other Kings. This individual may cause it to go awry which leads to one of the three outcomes above or for a different demon to be conjured. It is also possible that a couple more members side with this individual.
If Dominique were to return, this is an idea of how it can be accomplished.
It looks to be a very temporary merging for Dominique with Baal. It doesn't look like this physical connection that is permanent.
I had a feeling it was probably in jest as a means of demonstrating that very cliche you're talking about. I'm not really against it by any means since it could be an in-game surprise to Miriam and Johannes, maybe even Zangetsu. Just not to us since we're speculating about it now and would remember this topic if the developers ever did that. However, I don't think this cliche is strong for Ritual of the Night because we have not been given additional familial background about her that pertains to Ritual of the Night. Not Curse of the Moon II, that's an alternative storyline.
I can't really tell what the connection between Dominique and Bael is like since we're only shown that she summoned him and was able to teleport onto each of his three heads. Her upper body was the only part of her that emerged from the magical field she used to ride them. Though from how she was vanquished along with him, I think she may have merged with him. That or she has become absorbed by him and may not even be able to come apart because she is now gone. It may be that what's left of her physical form could just become an appendage of one of his heads.
Though the game could very well implement the third playable character without a story attached, I feel that it might be boring because it would be too similar to Zangetsu mode. Zangetsu mode's only story was the single cutscene that played before fighting Miriam at the very end of the mode. Take that cutscene away and you'll have two playable characters whose modes are quite nearly identical in that they have no story. The two playable characters, Zangetsu and the unknown third character, would function differently, but it would essentially be the same mode, just with different playable characters. I'm not saying it wouldn't be fun since the third playable character may have abilities that could be quite fun to use, but it would hardly be unique without anything else to it.
