How does the Money is Power shard work?

The description of the shard states that it "increases your stats proportionate to your wealth" but I have over a million gold and equipping the shard does not appear to raise any of my stats. When the shard states that your stats increase in proportion to your wealth, does wealth refer to something different then gold? It is also worth noting that I am playing on nightmare mode. Is there an attribute in nightmare mode that I am unaware of that would prevent this shard from working?

I did try equipping the shard before making this post. When the you equip the shard, a golden orb floats over your head. If I have a passive shard equipped that does not boost stats (such as regenerate or detective's eye) and switch to Money is Power, none of my numerical stats change and Miriam does not do or take more damage than before.

I figured out the problem myself. Once I upgraded the money is power shard to 9/9, I gained the ability to have the shard on all the time in the skill shard menu. If I only have 1 out of the 2 Money is Power shards active, I receive no stat buffs. If I have both Money is Power shards active, I receive a single stat point for every category. This means that the Money is Power shard buff is probably determined by some percentage based off of your stat total and not a static value. Since nightmare mode caps you at level 1 throughout the game, I was not able to receive any stat buffs with the Money is Power shard until I upgraded it to 9/9.

Your stats increase depending on how much money you have on you. I had gone in-game to test just how much you'd need per "Stat upgrade" but when sitting at 6,940,945 gold you're only looking at a boost of ATK HP, 1 STR, 1 INT and 1 MND when running as passive and an extra 1 CON and 1 MND when rank 9 and equipped.
