Accidentally went through the final boss door...
There should at least be some giant skull door or something to let me know I'm walking into the final boss area before I get trapped in there with him. I was well aware that I didn't want to fight the final boss without exploring and beating more bosses. But the kicker is I didn't even get to beat the game because he tossed me through the boss door in a cutscene move, which placed me out of bounds, which meant that there was no way to hit the moon.

But, there always is a special black door before a boss fight?

I'm not sure what the problem is. Didn't you save the game at all? A normie unspoiled non-guide reading playthrough you oughta go in there anyway and get the bad ending.

Yes, the special black door before the boss fight. I was looking for A boss. Not the THE final boss. For a fair comparison, let's look at dracula's castle in Symphony of the Night. You ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ KNEW when you were about to walk into Dracula's room because they showed you what it looked like beforehand. No danger of accidentally walking into him.

And I didn't read a guide. I thought it was kind of obvious what I had to do. I paid attention to the beginning cut scenes when BBEG escaped. When the moon turned red, I knew it was his demon familiar plus I've played SOTN and that game kind of did the same thing with the endings.

The problem is that the final boss can easily and accidentally phase you through the boss door and make you lose the whole damn game through no fault of your own, and that it's really not clear that's the final boss room.

Just load your save then.

There's a save point like one room away. Just...try again?

I've never seen this happen, so that's just something you gotta chalk up to bad luck. You're probably talking about his grab attack that's supposed to just ram you against a wall.

Happens, tough luck, reload last save, same as the headless menu bug people get once in a while.

Meanwhile I walked up a long-ass flight of stairs and thought "Gebel is up here" because that's how it was in multiple CV games.

Not nearly close to the final boss. If you go there early you get a bad ending, you have to do so much more to get to the real final boss.

I already understood that I'm not supposed to go fight that guy yet. The stupid thing was the game put me on the path to go do it without ever making it clear he was there before going in.

the huge dramatic staircase before Dracula/fakecula is a Castlevania tradition. not the game's fault you didn't get the hint.
