Gothic game made with RPG/backtracking elements similar to Metroid. It's associated with the game developer Koji Igarashi.

Both terms are basically semantics. People just tend to use "Igavania" for the games that Koji Igarashi actually works on.

Let's just say that Igavania means a Metroidvania game in which Igarashi is part of the development team.

Metroidvania is the correct term, Igavania is pointless wankery. If everyone was so full of themselves we'd have genres like Shigeru Miyamario, Sakaguchi Fantasy, etc.

I dunno. I highly doubt he came up with the 'igavania' term himself. He seems like a very humble guy.

I suspect it was something dreamt up by a PR/Marketing person: I'd never heard the term before the Bloodstained Kickstarter.

It's Castlevania... they can't use that word because it's owned by Konami now, so they just call it Igavania.

Basically the term "Metroidvania" describes an open-world side scroller in the vein of Metroid or Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. You typically go and upgrade your character to varying degrees. When they say Igavania they are just playing up the fact that it's a Metroidvania designed by the guy responsible for Symphony of the Night.
