Only play if you think youll like it
Nope, Curse of the moon AKA the 8bit one is a spinoff. No need to play it to get the story of this game.
Having said that, you should play it anyway if you like the classic style of vanias as well as the symphony of the night style that this one is..
the stories have nothing to do with each other, seeing as the heroyou play as in curse is an enemy in bloodstanined.
But if you don't, read up on YouTube what happened.
There is indeed story at the end of the game that indicates what happened to the trio of characters. This will be important to set up the story.
ehat are you on about? the game is in it's own self contained universe.
i played it on all difficulties, eve the one where you killall the friends and yeah - none of that is canon, dude.
The theory on most of the forums is that Alternate Ending 1 is canon. Whether it is or isn't? Hard to say, either of us might be right.
It would be cool if Iga released a statement indicating if this is true or not. Miriam seems troubled by Gebel's alignment which seems to indicate a past with him, and Zangetsu still being MIA does leave one to wonder.
there's no way any of that game is canon, no matter how you slice it.
Enjoy it before, during or after Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night if you think it is your jam! Its a solid game.
