But the Ice Caverns also feel underdeveloped and a poor fit for 3 of the final boss fights. I really think they should have added a third area theme to the end for the fight against Dominique, such as a dark gothic area with obvious hellish corruption going on.
The Halls of Termination is easily the most interesting, alongside Livre Ex Machina.
I can see Den of Behemoths generally being one of the least popular areas, I'll admit it didn't sit well with me at first. The size was a bit of a pain, but the boss there was pretty interesting.
I had to fight him twice because reasons (let's say I just ran into him and was not really prepared) ;-) and I made sure to fight it with an empty wallet. You don't trick me into a long fight....
But the favorite defenitely goes to the Gardens, the area is cool and all, you can fiight ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Richter and theres a playable piano, not only that, you can make your Carabossa familiar sing while you play the piano. 10/10 would play the piano again.
Den was just.. big. That's all it has going for it. nothing really interesting going on there other than upsized monster who mostly give the same shards as their lower tier brothers. Glacial Tomb.. eh. It's tiny but also just felt to much like a reskin of some of the other cave like areas such as the hidden desert or the aquaway. In the end it doesn't really feel great as a final area for the final boss, this tiny ice cave under a 2nd, inflated, castle map.
I think having them seperated from the castle map was also kind of a mistake. we have some pretty sizable gaps in the main castle that those final areas could have gone in.
I mean I /get/ why its out there, they didn't want to have a couple obvious entryways left over when the player got to the 'final fight'. But there are plenty of ways they could have hidden them so.. i dunno.
Aside from that I thought all the areas were good. The implementation of the final fight in Glacial Tomb was pretty poor, but the area itself was fine.
