Yes. You get an ability from an enemy let lets you kinda awkwardly move around. Itsa regular enemy, not a boss. Drop rate seems high though.

I can't open the chests either. I assume you'll get an proper skill shard that lets you walk/move in water normally later on...

Right, I have the Aqua Jet thing...but when you blow past chests it doesn't give any option to open it.

Just go on, you'll find a new desert area where you'll get that shard after beating the boss.
