I've tried that weapon and it's nice, but I think the God Cross is actually stronger even though it does less damage, at least regarding early game enemies. It's riskier to use because it doesn't stun, but kills things faster.
I recently upgraded it to the 16bit version and the projectile attack does close to 30 damage, that's just the projectile and not counting if you hit with the sword as well, plus the stone chance is really frequent. I can get through more enemies faster with it than the Encrypted Orchard because about a third of them just instantly die after a hit or two.
The light damage and base damage are nothing special, but good enough. However, the rate at which it inflicts stone and the speed you can attack with it makes it pretty OP.
You will want something else for bosses and other stuff that's immune, but for just running around the castle, I've found it to be the equivalent to the shotgun in Doom. It's the best thing I've found so far to run around and deal with the rank and file until you run into something bigger and need to pull out a bigger gun.
EDIT: I have both swords and had enough money so I upgraded both to 16 bit.
Then I ran through several rooms with each weapon. Leaving and entering to reset the room for each weapon. I ran through several rooms to ensure a variety of enemies.
God Cross killed enemies more efficiently. I got through the rooms faster and killed everything quicker with this weapon. It was especially effective against larger damage sponge enemies. It also knocks back enemies a bit further than the other sword.
Encrypted Orchid is safer to use because it stun locks, but less reliably against larger enemies. I was able to easily kill small fast mobs with this weapon because it stuns them instead of knocking them back. Really good against things like dogs.
i ask as in earlier versions of game it was a rapier.
