Chests already opened before I get to them? Spoilers and possible softlock

after beating the twin dragon boss the chest containing the silver bromide was already opened and I do not have the bromide or the photo and I think my game is softlocked now...

Yeah the same happened to me, and I think it was because of the new patch

This is a bug with console that started their save file before the Day 1 patch.

yeah you are F'd. best to restart. I just noticed the chest under the chariot guy/ past the iron maiden is open already which is only about 3-6 or so hours in. Just want to make sure if you guys haven't gotten the day 1 patch here on PC and you have already started the game and gotten here and its open, your save is trash. sorta wish I bought it on pc now

There is a work around . If you have a physical copy of the game you can uninstall the game and the reinstall it. Then you want to pause and/or cancel the patch. When you go back into the game the chest will be closed and you can grab the bromide. Not sure if this would work on digital because I am not sure if the digital copies are 1.01 or 1.02 on download. I also dont know if this happens on PC cause the release was delayed enough that I think most players didnt start a save before the 1.02 patch went live.
I was a backer so I had a PS4 copy before the game even went live. I started a game right as the game went active and was playing for hours. Then when I started up again the next day the 1.02 patch installed and I noticed something seemed wrong. Some chests that I thought we open were closed and some that I was sure hadnt be opened were... but I kept playing. Just a little while ago I was talking to my bro and he told me I should have had the silver bromide already so I went back to look and found the chest was open. I had sequenced broke a whole area by dive kicking candles to get up somewhere I should have needed an ability to get to.
Either way, reverting back to the original version on disk worked. I went back and the chest was not closed. You might be able to grab the item then let the patch apply but since there might be an other important chest going forward it is probably best to no update till you beat the first run or a patch that fixes this problem goes up. Or ... you can probably uninstall and reinstall anytime you encounter another borked chest .
