Just a note: English translation is pathetic.
If you do not understand Japanese well enough, but want to have a coherent understanding of a story here, then this game's English subtitles will not provide you with quality translation of Japanese lines. Consider waiting for a fan-made good quality translation or something.
Ah well I will give one example, that highlights the pathetic-ness:
The character say (literal, in Japanese): Wrong wrong wrong wrong! (a repeated word with raised voice to stress distraught and disbelief)
The subtiles say: No, you are completely wrong about this!

And the example that you mentioned is definitely one of the milder ones.

English translators in general do not respect the source material, not even the core meaning of statements or context. I once asked such a translator on Twitter why he is doing what he does (inserting profanity where there is none in the source), and his reply was 'I thought it would fit the character'. There you have it, these people do not care.

Story seems fine to me so far but thanks for the heads up; I'll play it with my sister since she is okay with Japanese and will be able to spot the disparities.

Uh, the tranlation's just fine, the story is completely understandable. If you're saying it's bad because it's not a 1:1 translation, you're dumb. Yes, the subtitles are obviously not doing a literal translation of what's being said, but you can't be too literal in a translation because some things just don't work or sound right in another language.

Every translations in this game are full of typos and errors, french, german, etc... every single one of them.
English one is the best of all but still not good enough.

Apparently if you are not a dumbo with a payment waiting upon translation, but a professional with passion for your work, things sound just well AND make sense in another language. Draw the parallels, please.

Ooooh! This is where "All your base are belong to us" comes from. All the memes... because of half-brained people.

Exactly this. While the English translation in this game certainly isn't going to win any awards, it seems pretty typical for a Japanese game (and the English voice acting too.) Just like the rest of the game, charmingly janky.

But we're missing the point here. The point is WE FINALLY HAVE REAL CASTLEVANIA ON PC!

You don't own the game, you have no mouse icon next to your name.

The english translation is fine. You have perfectly coherent understanding of what is going on...

Now it could definitely be better edited, but don't exaggerate the issue by claiming you can't have a coherent understanding of the story if you don't speak japanese...

Yes, I am not going to own another half-done work on Japanese translation. Did you want to say anything by mentioning it? Maybe you want to accuse me of piracy, like a pre-first-grader? OR the translation is suddenly, miraculously, not yet another flip-flop just because I do not own the game?

He is just trolling, he doesn't even own the game.

You will miss out A LOT on what it means to use Japanese language as story-telling means. The breakdown I mentioned in the opening remark is a perfect examle of such. Sure, you will understand what is going on, though the subtitles. But that's it, you understand the text that explains the story, but in no way in its quality it mirrors the story itself. The translation does not aim at being a worthy counterpart to its original, instead it is just there to make sure Westerners get the idea. No more, no less.

I don't think they put enough money in for a better localization since they gotta do multiple languages.

See, localization for this game is NOTHING compared to localizing a entire Legend of Heroes: Trails in the sky to Cold Steel franchise.

The basics are localized, but the emphasis on the wording and the drama, is not.

Play the game with english subtitles and Japanese voice and sometimes what the character says sounds a little off to what the subtitle says, because the subtitles are 'less dramatic'.
