Shards' negativity?
I've been warned i think that having too many shards could make Miriam weaker or something.. Everytime i get a new one, where she stabs herself with it, the screen shakes violently once i skip the text about the shard.

Am i doing something wrong?. Is her HP or MP lowering down because of it or something?..Or can i keep collecting shards nonstop?

If there's something i can do to , so to say, "Get the good ending" while powering Miriam the hell out, please help me out! (NO SPOILERS, PLEASE)

I've 100% the game, and I can guarantee you there's no drawback from collecting a ♥♥♥♥ ton of shards.

In fact, there are benefits on doing so with certain kinds of shards; all shards can be upgraded by alchemy and by gathering more of the same kind (Rank and Grade I think it's called); I don't remember which one does what, mainly cause it tends to differ from shard to shard, but for instance, if you get multiple copies of the dullahan head familiar, you will summon more heads.

It's specially useful when doing yellow shards, cause once you max them, they become a skill shard, which means you can have it always active (and double the effect, since you can trigger the skill shard and equip the yellow one too); and then there's shards where I saw absolutely no difference (I maxed the fairy and saw absolutely no difference whatsoever, same for the sword), and others that serve no purpose other than collection.

As for the endings, I've got every single ending with all shards collected and lots of them maxed, so yeah, endings depend on you following certain events, not collecting lots of crap.

The endings depend on story progression. If you just rush to Gebel without doing the story you get an end.

No, and I've been asking about this as well. It seems like collecting a certain # of shards in your inventory (not in total, so ones you've sold don't count) will make a permanent physical change on the character that can't be reversed and that may have an effect on the game, but I haven't found anyone specifying the # of shards required or how this actually does affect the game (and whatever it does, it almost certainly does involve spoilers). May just have to wait until someone gives us the exact # of shards that causes it to happen.

I'll keep looking around to see if anyone's posted anything elsewhere, though. I'm on like five different forums looking for info on this, so...

Subscribing, because I am also interested in this. At the moment I am collecting everything (raise Luck for enhanced drop chance)

At one point I had a green glow on one of Miriam's eyes but I'm not sure if it's related.

It fine this being a SS to Castlevania the ending are dicated by the event flag you didn't trigger. Example in DoS if you beat Dario a 2nd time without using Paranoia in the battle you will kill Dario and Alu..Akikado will be ok Soma follow me out of this place. The end the main villian is no where to be seen. It kinda like the Bad ending of this game actually.

There's apparently someone on gamefaqs who is doing tests to figure out the shard count... hopefully they'll follow up on it. If not, I may just try and do it myself.

Also, I think I found out what it does... but it is spoilery and you said no spoilers so... *shrug*

Possibly a Enchance shard (yellow) I have a blue glow when I use the wisdom one (ArchDemon) no MP cost sometime for casting.

As someone who likes to farm the ever living ♥♥♥♥ out of games like this, I am worried.

If it's only cosmetic or doesn't result in a "bad ending" then I am fine, but I am going to have to go sell a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of shards right now if it actually has an impact on the ending...

Okay, it doesn't sound like getting a large # of shards will outright lock you into a specific ending... if you want a teensy bit more spoilery info, there's another topic going on at gamefaqs here:

Still no specific numbers yet, though, and I'd like to know. I'll keep looking.

The clue is in the sword's name, "Zangetsu" You'll slap yourself once you realize.
To sum it up having many shards doesn't give you the bad ending, nor do they have any negative on Miriam, so you can have as many as you want to that end.

I assumed it was just a special animation given to signify to the player that they have gotten a brand new shard type. I'm not too far in to the game yet but tying the number you acquire to certain game ending and negative consequences within the game would strike me as fairly bad design as you gain them by chance. So acumulating a large number of them to me seems unavoidable.

I do not think so myself, but something Gremory said in the Usurper ending might suggest there may be something to it. If you get the Zangetsuto and then defeat Gebel without cutting the moon when it turns red as a result of Gremory appearing, Gremory says that Miriam having a high number of shards would make her easy to possess. The number of Shards or the range of how many needed for this line of dialogue to make sense is not specified, however. When I first got the Usurper ending, I actually had a significant number of Shards in my possession, so I thought that counted until I read the description of the following YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT3LM2BEaYo

It might still be possible to acquire the Usurper ending without getting the Zangetsuto if the number of Shards is accounted for as an alternative. But I cannot say for certain since I have not experienced it myself. I actually don't remember if I had the Zangetsuto when I got the ending, so maybe. Otherwise having a high number of Shards has no effect in the game.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
