Best shards?
Just curious what the most powerful ones are?

Welcome Company was pretty heavily nerfed some time ago, but it was a BEAST pre-nerf. Was very hard to find any lists of "Top ten shards" that didn't include it way back when.

True Arrow, most deff, Cerulian splash or the Bat (whatever you can upgrade), sword as a familiar, sword expertise in buff, and swords/maces as weapon category - fast, reliable, reasonable reach, insane damage output. Worked for me so far.

Shards like Dullhammer are IMO redundant, because they do similar things to regular weapon (GSWORD) attack, while true arrow allows you to deal with dangerous enemies above or other direction, out of reach.

AIM: True Arrow is really good for early game but for sheer boss battle DPS, I've been using Heretical Grinder for the entire game. I thought Tis Rozain was going to replace it, but I don't like how slowly it does damage. The ticks are much slower than HG but it still burns MP through the whole stream. Yeah, you can optimize its MP usage by using it only for the damage tick, waiting the proper time, and using it again, but then you get TISROZA-TISROZA-TISROZA-TISROZA- and even then, I'm not sure the DPS outshines HG, but I haven't tried it since upgrading it.

MANIPULATIVE: Of course I have Accelerator on for the majority of the game after getting it, but during boss fights, I've been playing with Sacred Shade & Shadow Tracer. SS has been good for boost LUCK during farming, haven't noticed too much extra DPS for boss fights. I beat one particular late-game boss with a fully powered ST and spamming the crap out of Rhava Velar, which just melted the boss's health when all the clones lined up.

I did find out recently that Feral Claws can be done at the same time as aiming shard, but since the method for a lot of bosses involves inverting and aiming from the ceiling, it's probably not a very practical use. I'd still like to see how high I can get the DPS with it.

CONJURE: I'd like to know a good one for this as well. I fully upgraded Head Flail early on and always thought it was hilarious how giant it got, but since I relied so heavily on Aim shards, I never really looked for a good replacement.

PASSIVE: I have Augment Luck on for the whole game, but I switch to Weapon Expertise when fighting bosses since I'm normally spamming Rhava Velar.

FAMILIAR: I used Bloodbringer for most of the game because of the SotN nostalgia, but I've switched to Dantalion lately for the STR boost it frequently gives.

I've been working on a completely 100% first run in regards to shards (as well as items/armors/food/map) but I really haven't been playing with very many alternatives otherwise. That's how I usually end up playing these games though. For the first time, however, I'm not using a heavy hitting axe. I've used the axe/greatswords almost 0% of this playthrough and that's all I used throughout DoS/PoR.

Bolide Blast is definitively the most powerful spell! When fighting a boss, you just cast it on the boss. Everything when it hits, the boss will pause for a brief moment. Therefore you can keep on casting this spell and the boss will keep on getting hit and is like moving in slow motion (and don't forget this spell does a lot of damage). After I discovered this use, I found that most of the boss fight were not challenging at all (including the secret bosses).

Lighning + holy water time stop combo is the best for bosses.

My favorite game breaking combo is za warudo (Standstill) and totally not holy cross (Ruinous Rood), it's brutal if you have Gebel's glasses, or if you have a safe zone where you can spawn a chair and sit down.

In fact, anything that does contact damage does wonders with Standstill since they effectively stay in place doing damage merely by existing, as long as you can keep Standstill on.

8-Bit Fireball does a absurd amount of damage when fully upgraded, it makes Flame Cannon look like a baby shotgun with how hard it slams anything in the shotgun spread. A caster build with this using Gebel's Glasses and Skull Necklace is bonkers OP

True. But why did this warrant a necro?
