Shards like Dullhammer are IMO redundant, because they do similar things to regular weapon (GSWORD) attack, while true arrow allows you to deal with dangerous enemies above or other direction, out of reach.
MANIPULATIVE: Of course I have Accelerator on for the majority of the game after getting it, but during boss fights, I've been playing with Sacred Shade & Shadow Tracer. SS has been good for boost LUCK during farming, haven't noticed too much extra DPS for boss fights. I beat one particular late-game boss with a fully powered ST and spamming the crap out of Rhava Velar, which just melted the boss's health when all the clones lined up.
I did find out recently that Feral Claws can be done at the same time as aiming shard, but since the method for a lot of bosses involves inverting and aiming from the ceiling, it's probably not a very practical use. I'd still like to see how high I can get the DPS with it.
CONJURE: I'd like to know a good one for this as well. I fully upgraded Head Flail early on and always thought it was hilarious how giant it got, but since I relied so heavily on Aim shards, I never really looked for a good replacement.
PASSIVE: I have Augment Luck on for the whole game, but I switch to Weapon Expertise when fighting bosses since I'm normally spamming Rhava Velar.
FAMILIAR: I used Bloodbringer for most of the game because of the SotN nostalgia, but I've switched to Dantalion lately for the STR boost it frequently gives.
I've been working on a completely 100% first run in regards to shards (as well as items/armors/food/map) but I really haven't been playing with very many alternatives otherwise. That's how I usually end up playing these games though. For the first time, however, I'm not using a heavy hitting axe. I've used the axe/greatswords almost 0% of this playthrough and that's all I used throughout DoS/PoR.
In fact, anything that does contact damage does wonders with Standstill since they effectively stay in place doing damage merely by existing, as long as you can keep Standstill on.
True. But why did this warrant a necro?
