What does luck do?
I missed the in game description and can't find any way to bring it up.

There wasn't much of an in game description.

To keep it simple, when your luck gets higher, chances to get shards and loot increase. The money that is dropped from torches and enemies is increased. You also increase your chance to get critical hits.

It isn't much, but the difference in the stat by the time you get to the end of the game is a decent amount. (Torches that would give 1 gold give 500 gold, and 1 crit in 500 hits turns into 1 crit per 50 hits).

pretty much, also if you manage to max out augment luck and augment gold you have a chance of getting 2K coin bags from torches if you also equip augment gold, as well as getting 100 coins more often and more rare drops, so yea, luck factors in for a lot of things, items, crits, how often you cause crits, shards, etc
luck is basically a global win modifier
What Luck is known to do is influence the value of money drops, determine critical hit rate, and provide a bonus to item and shard drops from enemies.

Given the game’s mechanics revolving heavily around drops, Luck is basically one of the most important stats of the game.

Gets you more loot/shards from demons you kill.

I'd recommend grabbing the LUCK book. It gives a huge luck boost. I did so as my first book and I think it helped me a lot for grabbing random loot that you'll need later if you want to complete the item/shard achievements or the food questline.

An additional note: as a classic Castlevania vet, I expected Luck to have an impact, but a small one, on loot drops.

This does not appear to be the case here, as I've found that high quantities of Luck have a SIGNIFICANT impact on loot drops. I don't have hard data, but the "100 luck" territory seems to be around double drop rate at least.

100 luck is pretty good yes but I also prefer it that way. Looting items (especially rare ones) should not be a headache or a forever grind. I think the way it is now is perfect. Most important stat yes but rightly so.I like how it helps with getting drops and shards but also with gold, etc.

Helps with drops. Its useful to have a luck build when you are backtracking for loot materials.

I don't know man, when I wear 2 curse rings and get my luck to 0. I start getting materials that i can't get from the monsters in that same area when I do farming
