Upgrading Familiars?
So, I know that upgrading the rank of the Silver Knight makes him do more attacks. How about other familiars? I haven't seen much difference for the Dullahammer Heads, beyond damage they deal. Do Buer, Dantalion, or Bloodbringer get any new attacks or anything from Ranking/Grading up, or is it just their damage output?

Like everything, you have rank and grade. Feel free to check the info for both in your shard list. Power is usually only from grade. Rank however will boost up the 2nd effect. Check them up.

So familiars seem to be

Level = Damage and frequency of attack
Grade = same as level
Rank = Varies

Heads = more heads with rank
Fairy = detects secrets more often with rank
Book = more likely to buff you / better buff
sword = more aggressive attacking
knight = more movesets

Well as far as I've seen it goes like this:

  • Dullahan's grade increases the head count (up to 5), and I'm not sure about rank, it seems to make it attack more often
  • Carabosse... I have no idea, mine is R9/G9/Lv.99 and she has an attack that sucks ass (and is quite aggressive with it), and also points out breakable walls and uses fairy potions for support.
  • Bloodbringer... again no idea, I noticed it became more aggressive with each grade I got, and I have no idea about the rank. It's attack sucks anyway and it misses most of the time (and as an equippable sword, mine is R9/G9/Lv99 and is weaker than many end game swords).
  • Silver Knight... not sure if it's because of level, rank or grade, but mine is as high as possible (R9/G5/Lv.99) and he has a barrage of stabs, summons a pilar of light per enemy on screen and blocks incomming attacks (sometimes failing to protect me somehow).
  • Dantalion... not sure, mine is R1/G9/Lv.29 and it increases my attack and throws a dark projectile. Seems to be worthy but I'm too lazy to max another familiar... for now.
  • Buer... I didn't even bother.

I've seen many posts stating that you need Lv. 10 for that, no ranks or grades mentioned.

The number of heads goes up with grade.

If you can get grade 9 on those dullahan heads, ASAP, they're really OP at the start of the game.

BUER can breath fire like the one you encounter in later level (If you rank up a few times).

Buer is used for Kick Boots users, it's a spiky soccer ball of doom... If you LvL it up, it can breathe fire and cling onto walls & ceilings like it's red footed upper difficulty enemy brother. Dunno about any farther than that, other than the velocity of it's bounce after slide kicking seems to increase.
