swimming [spoilers]
ok for those who curious or w/e you 1st underwater shard will be from some type of swimming jellyfish enemy in the underground waterway
they are in a place acessable in a place after you beat bloodless in the cathedral (you will have probably forgotten about the cathedral after so long since you come across it early but need the reflector ray to explore)
now then after you get the shard you will notice 2 things: 1. its not true swimming but propelling you about and 2. it costs no mp in water (that bit is true and untrue you still need the mp to cast it but your mp wont go down)
(thanks solthusx for reminding me about this one) your 2nd shard will com from the underwater horse this is a passive (I forgot it existed because i simply did not use it) it allows faster water movement
your 3rd shard will come after the boss of the underground desert this is the skill shard heavy sinking and it will let you hit up all those yummy chests you have seen in the water

Some other things to note:

a) One of the 'Avenge X' quests requires you to kill those same jellyfish mobs.

b) Your initial underwater movement speed is very slow. The shard from the water horse increases it slightly.

That feel when you can't put a spoiler tag in the title of your spoilery PSA

Another thing I think is worth pointing out, even if maybe I'm the only one affected by this, is how the reflector ray requires you to aim with an analogue stick (or maybe the mouse) to get into the upper area of the Cathedral.

I was using a Hori Fighting Commander, and I wasn't really using aimed magic until I got the ray. So I didn't realize the aiming was actually analogue, and every other instance of the ray only required a 45 degree angle; but the way up into the cathedral to get to the boss requires a more acute angle than a d-pad allows.

Just putting it out there: You don't need reflector ray to explore the upper part of the Cathedral and fight Bloodless. You can jump-kick your way up there using breakable lamps, as long as you have the double jump.
