Will I like this if I didn't like Hollow Knight?
I never fully played SotN back on PS1 but I put it on my PSX Mini and it's enjoyable / fun for sure.
I know the game I compared it to is Miles different and has a Lot more content but it's under the "Vania" category I think so seems fair.

If I buy it it'll have to be through Fanatical since there's a site sale running atm but figured I'd ask. I normally don't like games that have forced backtracking a lot, not sure if this one does

Imo if you don't like Hollow Knight then you likely won't like Bloodstained tbh. Both are of the Metroidvania type games so there is quite a bit of backtracking if you want to get all the stuff and the actual ending.

So I'll say to pass on this game.

Depends what you didnt like in hollow knight.

Bloodstained is kind of just more of SotN, drawing from it and the GBA/DS follow-ups. If you have fun with SotN you'll likely enjoy Bloodstained. I personally prefer it at the moment, definitely got more than my money's worth.:2016bee:

Uh, the map system isn't as cruddy as HK, it was a nice idea and all, but when it was down to using it it kinda got to my nerves. This is also more rpg-ish than HK

I guess a main thing I didn't like about it is that it's Too big and easy to get lost in?
It really depends I guess, I don't dislike backtracking completely, I own and like Touhou Luna Nights which is another vania title then I have other smaller scale vania games and things like it that I enjoy

HK just felt like too much with no real sense where to go at least for me; tried a few playthroughs

Could be quite possibly the reason why I don't like it as much, if Bloodstained has a simple map and isn't something you'd get frustrated knowing where to go with such a big map (unsure if the map is big) then I wouldn't have an issue really

Recently started playing Blaster Master Zero and that's another vania-ish title that's fun, I just don't like getting endlessly lost idk if that's a problem in this game but if the map is simple and isn't too big it'd be okay

A lot of backtracking? Technically the game only forces you to truly backtrack two or three times, but otherwise it is pretty straightforward. Most of the backtracking you do is because you're lost and don't know what to do next, or you want to farm stuff.

Yeah, you probably wouldn't enjoy Bloodstained then. Some progress can be really obscure if you don't pay enough attention, especially to NPCs.

Hollow Knight has no levelling, no loot and no armor weapon system like Castlevania.
Hollow Knight only has Charm.

It's a Metroidvania, so Bloodstained and Hollow Knight share a few things.
But if you enjoy SotN, this one feels the same, so you might like it.

i think Hollow knight is trash, and Bloodstained is easily one of my fave sp rpg games right now.
I'm gonna be picking this game up soonish if I can for sure. Appreciate the replies here, HK isn't my game because it feels Too easy to get lost in ontop of being a huge game. The map felt confusing, just wasn't feeling it.

Someone mentioned this game has progression through levels and such, I like that. Armor, weapons, all good points
The map seems like the normal vania-style map and looking at a big version of the map it doesn't look bad at all

I like SotN the most haven't played much of the other Castlevania games besides the Very early ones but I'll be sure to support this one when I can :cskel:

I did not like HK at all, refunded it fast, this is way better.

I'm working my way through Hollow Knight now and it's nothing like Bloodstained. Bloodstained was a much better and much more exciting experience for me. I'll finish Hollow Knight because I started it, but the soundtrack is really putting me to sleep.
