TOO similar to SotN?
Never thought I'd say this, as SotN is one of my favourite games, but the map/ level design feels a bit too similar. You have the cathedral, the underground area, etc etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thoroughly enjoying the game and only got to play about 2 hours worth before work where I'm at now. Everything just feels very... deja vu. To the point where it might be a little bit too much. For all i know though, that changes later on in the game. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

kickstarters appeal to one audience only: the ones that liked the game it tries to emulate:

yooka laylee: banzo kazooey fans

TJ and Earl Back in the groove: fans of TJ and Earl 1 on the genesis

two most recent ones I can think of. But you get the idea.

Its pretty different.

I dont remember the boat segment in Symphony.

Map design wise I think they all have a similar vibe. I mean there can only be so many areas inside a castle. Gameplay wise feels much more like dawn, aria and even order. Unless they have an inverted castle section later on, it feels rather fresh.

Miriam can invert at will at some point.

This is much closer to Aria of Sorrow than Symphony of the Night in terms of gameplay. As for the recurring themes, Castlevania has always reused the basic idea of areas. A cathedral, a clock tower, underground caves, the throne room, and so on.

yeah i would just say that, if anything this game is more Aria of Sorrow than SoTN. But that was the promise since the beginning anyway. "A new castlevania for the old fans".

In other words, things that have been in many Castlevania games.

This is the same zones rethought as in sotn, aos, dos, etc

Its a bit underwhelming to kind of know what to expect but with new names and models

It can be forgived, given this is the first idependent venture for Iga, so its wise to start things off with the time-tested formula.

Bloodstained 2 or whatever is where he should experiment, given this game established the new foundation.

I dont dislike it, its ok it just doesnt give it a whole lot of personality, I just wish that if it becomes a new serie it wont just be the same thing every game. I mean ennemies in this one even often have the same color palette as their castlevania counterpart. Hopefully theyll take more liberties in future games.

Good to know because that's what I paid for.

The underground/waterfall section was a bit too similar for my tastes, but aside from that even the "repeated" area like clock tower was different enough to still be interesting.

Yep, that's what I wanted too. And I got what I wanted. Fairly successful kickstarter considering the other wildly failed one (cough Mighty No 9)
