What's Your First 8-Bit Weapon?
If you don't already know, early on you can find an 8-Bit coin, I believe it was in the sewers below the castle. You can soon trade that in to Joahnnes for a unique weapon. There's a lot to choose from, so I'm curious what everyone chose.

I'm going back and forth on a sword or the whip, personally.

You got to try the Shield, it counts a sword in the game's weapon types. It guard whenever you attack with it at the same time, plus the super fast speed means you have almost perfect defense while you punt-spam a boss like Zangetsu, which I beat as soon as I got the weapon and did not even use a potion. Only short coming is short range and small hitbox.

Edit: It's an amazing sword. Stun-locks for days thanks to the electric damage.
Feeding that gibberish through the Vigenere cypher with the passphrase "orchid" gives the output "a light saber with immense power".

And it would have immense power wouldn't it, after Palpatine went through all that trouble to charge it up for us, then throw it out the window.

It's certainly one of the better weapons available, the stunlock from the extra hits is amazing, and the extra hits also mean it's doing a bit more damage than the numbers imply. I believe even the 8-bit version is hitting twice for 2 damage after its main hit, but now I'm on the 32-bit version and it hits twice for ~18 damage after whatever the main hit does (120-130 damage for me right now, depending on enemy resists).

There were too many and the whole thing made my brain hurt since they all felt so similar in their weapon category. I ended up going Ice boots, but given none of the bit weapons I got could use any tech's I just pushed them to the side.

I know you can buy another 8-bit coin for 4k, considering doing that to get the wand or something.
You could just dismantle the weapon into an 8-bit coin and make it into another weapon(costs 6 alkahest)

Mine is the Encrypted Orchid or the Lightsabre.

anyone get the 32 bit version of Eu's sword? Does it have any additional effects or is it just a damage boost?

I picked Ambivalence. I quickly realized that the extended range is not worth the dead zone directly in front of Miriam.

Deathbringer for huge damage. Got the 16-bit version a bit later. I murder everything super fast with this beast. I think the thing that takes the most hits is the dragons at 5 hits. I think there's 1 or 2 enemy types that take 3. Majority of stuff is 1 or 2 hits.
I bought the dawn sword or whatever because I thought it'd be like the Sword of Dawn from SotN and summon sick skeleton armies.

It does no such thing and I'm highly disappointed in it.

The whips in this game are are really awkward to use. Well, except the sword whip, but that counts as a sword to the game.

I wonder if that's on purpose, as a nod to the older castlevania games

I doubt is, as the whips in the Castlevania games all handled MUCH better and easier than the ones in this. The sword whip is the closest to the Castlevania whip mechanics.

I'm torn on what to get.

I like the Lightsaber, but I'm also fond of the two-handed weapons.. so that brings me to wonder which of the effects of the two-handed weapons is best suited for general murdering purposes.

So far I'm leaning towards Deathbringer. The only thing I dislike about two-handed weapons is trying to hit bats.. damn things.

The flesh-grindy sword thing was neat, but that obnoxious sound keeps me from wanting to use it.

Edit: anyone with upgraded versions of the Lightsaber or Deathbringer know if they simply get extra damage, or added effects? Thanks!

I picked the Light Wand/Mace thingy. Figured I would go with the one that was least likely to be used.

Has a decent ranged Tech. Not a bad choice.

I chose Eu's sword and have now fully upgraded it with the 16bit and 32 bit coins, but i do regret playing with an 8bit weapon, they are a tad bit powerful, so much so that i've basically used Eu's sword the whole game.
