Deus Ex: Invisible War

Deus Ex: Invisible War

Mechthorian Jul 20, 2013 @ 3:26am
Game freezes on loading screens.
I got it to run once, and the actual game works just fine. But 99% of the time, it just hangs on the loading screen and refuses to move on. It doesn't minimize to desktop, or crash to a black screen, it just stays on the loading screen until I manually end the process.

What do?

I just installed the game, and have the exact same problem. Will not load, and have to end process.

I'm experiencing the same problem too. I'm running on windows 8. I ran the installation two times in case the download was messed up.

It opens with a white screen, I can hear sound and I see the cursor. That's it.

I think I want my $ back. I will get from another source and pay more I guess.

I have a problem too. When it load, I go back on the desktop screen during few seconds and after that I go back in the game. Every thime it does load.
This is really annoying.
(sorry for my poor english)

I had this same problem using Win7. I fixed it by disabling the visual themes and desktop composition on the DX2Main.exe and IonLauncher(sp?) executables.
Sparth Aug 17, 2013 @ 3:04am
Did that, loading screen still hangs.
Even then, the Ion launcher takes its sweet time and then re-enters me back to the game when it finds the loading screen, after that; When I move to a new area, it just....dies on me, boots me out and gives me a error saying 'Vickter Access Error' followed by some error code.

FIXED IT AT LAST

Program Files (x86) > Steamapps > Common > Deus Ex: Invisible War

In the properties window for...

Ion Launcher - dx2 - DX2Main

... in the compatibility tab, check the box 'disable visual themes' and apply.

Issues that may-may not happen -
Issues I've had so far; When a new world map is loading or other, it will kick me out of the game window for no more than 6-8 seconds , before reintroducing me back into the game. Its better than hanging at the black screen of doom.

I tried it with the desktop composition checked, but the same issue repeated, it was until I turned it off it responded, so each solution may be different.

1. Disconnect or turn off all unnecessary hardware (printer, scanner, smart cart readers, usb security tokens, etc...).

2. Close all messaging and chat apps

3. Go to DX:IW install\system directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Deus Ex Invisible War\System) and enable “disable visual themes” compatibility for all .exe files.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT ENABLE ANY OTHER COMPATIBILITY SETTINGS.

4. Close all applications that are utilizing GPU acceleration (media players, web browsers, etc...).

The game might start working by now, but it probably won't.

5. Close all applications that have direct control over hardware (usually configuration utilities for keyboard, mice, wlan NICs, etc...). Note: exiting application form notification area wont end it's root process.

6. Open windows task manager and end processes that have direct control over hardware (CenterAgent.exe asus wlan nic conf. utility, LCore.exe logitech keyboard and mice conf. utility.)

7. (optional) isolate process that is causing the issue (some realtek audio, and older logitech keyboard and mice utilities), in my case it was CenterAgent.exe

I have been testing this out after buying the package of all 3 games for a bit of nostalgia and found that while Deus Ex was all good and worked fine, Invisible War had the issues described above and just stopped on "LOADING". If i tabbed out and shut down the DE2 process it would eventually restart after a minute or so and load me into wherever i was going.

For me though I went through all the processes that were running to see what was conflicting and found it to be "Logitech Gaming Framework" as i have a gaming mouse and keyboard from them.

Once I ended this process the game does the "drop you to desktop for 5 seconds then load the new area" which isnt perfect but at least its somewhat playable.

btw i use windows 10 and havent used any compatability modes. WIll try them now to see if that fixes the drop to desktop on loading too.

Hope this at least gives some functionality to some players :)

That's good info... I've been running the GOG.com versions of DE I and II, without problems. DE III has worked great from Steam on Windows 10 though.

I had this running ok in Windows 8, then I upgraded to Windows 10, and now this loading screen freeze issue pops up.

The whole "End dx2main.exe process but not Ionlauncher.exe" works, but it takes a minute or two each time which is very annoying when loading saves or heading from one area to another.

I have a Logitech mouse and keyboard, but I can't find any Logitech related process under Task manager. I've been trying lots of different things but still haven't found a cure.
When I played around with compatibility settings for all the exectuables they would simply refuse to run. When I changed compatibility seetings an error dialog would pop up that would say "Failed to Find Steam." and then Steam would be opened up in my browser (?)

Edit: "Disabling Steam Overlay" appears like it doesn't work either.

Im guessing no-one has found a solution, I'm on windows 10 and I feel like I've tried everything!

I almost want to partition my machine and dual boot it back into Windows 7 (assuming I can find my Microsoft Dreamspark Win 7 Copy) just so I can get it to run somewhere. But I don't know if DE: IW is really worth it.

I managed to fix it by uninstalling lots of drivers and disabling multi threading on nvidia control panel. I also changed as many affinity settings as I could to 1 core and disabled some background processes with task manager. When the loading screen appears, it crashes to windows but almost immediately restarts and loads again. It's not perfect but it's better than waiting 2 minutes!

It took far too long to get this pos to work. I was having the same black screen on loading issue and what worked for me in the end was exiting Razer Synapse and ending the processes 'itype.exe' and 'ipoint.exe' in Task Manager. This is with a Razer mouse and a Microsoft keyboard.
