Pops to desktop, back to game when loading
First off, I have no problems with game play or anything. The only thing that bothers me is that every time the game has to load a new area, it goes black, pops to my desktop, then back into the loading screen. I can still play, but it really makes it hard to stay focused and keep the feeling of the game. Is there a fix to stay IN the game when it's loading?

Have you tried installing the Unified Texture Pack or running the game Windowed at a resolution smaller than your actual screen or installing Gamers Window Relocator and running the game at your desktop resolution :)

Thanks for the advice, Alexis! I'll try all of those things. I had no idea there was a windowed option in Invisible War?

It's hidden under default.ini, because the game is built on Uneal 2 engine then it's easy to modify.

However search for "Deus Ex Independence War widescreen 2.2" and you should get a link to a program that easily lets you do this.

can you play this game with a controller or is it mouse and keyboard only?

I've never even tried to use a controller...I'm not sure.

a lot of the issues people had with this game was that it was dumbed down for consoles, since it was also released on xbox way back when..i've actually played it on both xbox and pc and i can tell you right now you're way better off sticking with the mouse and keyboard, controller is pretty awkward.

I've read in another thread on this subject that this is part of the problem. It worked fine with Win98, and little finiky with XP, but through Steam, I'm not sure if anything works. Although I haven't tried the download I've been reading about today... Yet.

What exactly did you try Hinsonator?

I've read and tried a few things for the the dropping to desktop problem and so far, nothing fixes it. One suggestion I've come across if it's really bothersome... Set your desk top to wallpaper to black and clear it of any icons. That way, when it drops to the desktop, it doesn't detract from the game quite as much.

The problem with both the temporary dump to the desktop, and the inability to access in-game Steam, as well as the "time played" counter is all based on the fact that DE IW uses one exe file to launch, another to run, and a third to load, whether loading a saved game or the next map area.

When it first came out, it was no big deal. But, with these newer systems, and going through Steam, it presents chalenges to the games opperation.

Personally, I find I can still enjoy the game even with thiese quirks. I did get the graphic rendering upgrade mod for it though. The graphics are phenominal now, even if it doesen't fill the wide screen from side to side.

So you haven't tried enabling windowed mode and using Gamers Window Relocator yet?
