The story wasn't a weak one, but compared to the first game it was a little on the shallow side. This was probably the by-product of Ion Storm trying to make the game more focused in certain areas but for me it didn't pan out. And while the first game was more dark and gritty this one seemed a bit more...bright, for lack of a better word. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but it didn't make me feel like I was still playing Deus Ex.
I wish I had some suggestions for you but I was frustrated just like you are now at my lack of ability to really enjoy this game. I guess I'm just venting about it because you brought up some lackluster memories. :(
Play on. Like I said, the story isn't terrible but it's not as involved as the first game. It still might end up being a miss for you, but at least you gave it a shot.
Thank you for your answer. It's really helpfull. I might give it another go later.
Open your Deus Ex Invisible War\System directory and disable visual themes and desktop composition in your compatibility tab for "dx2.exe", "DX2Main.exe" and "Ion Launcher.exe" (Right click -> Properties -> Compatibility).
Instead of automatically switching back to your desktop while loading, you'll get a black screen and then the loading screen. This should reduce the feeling of taken "out" of the game :)
Unfortunately I haven't found a fix for the ingame overlay yet. It seems like Deus Ex Invisible War is working with these three .exe files I've mentioned above and the overlay is only dedicated to one of these files.
Wow thanks, will try that now! Maybe then I can somewhat enjoy the game.
The small maps is again because of the memory constrictions of consol game systems at the time the game was developed.
Personally, I liked the story line for the most part and I liked the "brighter" feel of it. But, I can't argue that it was lacking in comparison to the original.
Honestly, I enjoyed it. It had a certain charm, the kind that a video game should have. It wasn't deep or complex, and was rough around the edges, but I could see intentions, and they didn't really drop off. It was short, simple and to the point.
... Then the endings came, and I couldn't find any cyanide
I origionally bought the game to put on a Win98 systme and had no trouble with it, beyond the long load times between transitions.
Over all, I liked the game enough that I've played it several times. Initially, once for each different end game. Then, a couple times just to revisit the series, especially when DEHR was anounced.
And, although I agree it wasn't the best of the series, I do still enjoy it, even with it's flacky querks.
I came to the same conclusion. Despite what everyone has said, I can't get into this game. I'm replaying the first game again.
Spoiler Alert!
I believe the game intends for the player to side with the Dentons’, being that Alex is essentially a clone based on JC. But, I have to admit, I have a problem with surrendering my mind and will over to a machine intelligence. Let alone commit everyone on the planet to the same fate. The only choice I could see that would leave any hope of survival with any semblance of free will was with the Illuminati. Any choice that pits you against the Dentons’ is going to be the hardest choice you can make. The Dentons’ are the toughest to beat.
