Deus Ex: Invisible War

Deus Ex: Invisible War

I can't get into this game.
I'm really trying to get into this game, but I just can't. I beat the first game not long ago for the first time and I loved it. But I can't seem to get into this one. It also seems to have a lot of technical issues, like the loading. When my game loads it kind of seems like closes and reopens itself and the steam overlay doesnt work. But its not just the technical things, overall the game just seems off. What do I do? I really want to get into this.

The technical problems really turned me off. Honestly, that loading thing where you're taken "out" of the game and sometimes back to your desktop in between levels even though it'll come right back up when it's finished loading...that just totally ruined the immersion for me. I know it sounds petty but it really was a deal breaker. Still, I pushed on and completed the game. Like you, I loved the first one and even though I'd heard some bad things about IW I figured I'd still work my way through the story and make my own decision. In the end I was really disappointed, despite knowing that disappointment was a very possible outcome.

The story wasn't a weak one, but compared to the first game it was a little on the shallow side. This was probably the by-product of Ion Storm trying to make the game more focused in certain areas but for me it didn't pan out. And while the first game was more dark and gritty this one seemed a bit more...bright, for lack of a better word. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but it didn't make me feel like I was still playing Deus Ex.

I wish I had some suggestions for you but I was frustrated just like you are now at my lack of ability to really enjoy this game. I guess I'm just venting about it because you brought up some lackluster memories. :(

Play on. Like I said, the story isn't terrible but it's not as involved as the first game. It still might end up being a miss for you, but at least you gave it a shot.

Fix:
Open your Deus Ex Invisible War\System directory and disable visual themes and desktop composition in your compatibility tab for "dx2.exe", "DX2Main.exe" and "Ion Launcher.exe" (Right click -> Properties -> Compatibility).

Instead of automatically switching back to your desktop while loading, you'll get a black screen and then the loading screen. This should reduce the feeling of taken "out" of the game :)

Unfortunately I haven't found a fix for the ingame overlay yet. It seems like Deus Ex Invisible War is working with these three .exe files I've mentioned above and the overlay is only dedicated to one of these files.

Wow thanks, will try that now! Maybe then I can somewhat enjoy the game.

And Im back. That did not work out well. I did those changes and the game kept on crashing. I removed any and all changes I made yet it keeps happening.

I just passed this game recently, I played DX1 last year for the first time and loved it even though it was so old. I liked the 3rd DX as well but this one was bad, Fix the wide screen, download new textures and close your eyes when a loading screen pops up. The loading screen popping to desktop was not as anoying as the multitools that refuse to stack up, the menu that looks like its from sega gennesis and the wheapons, for example I enjoyed sniper rifle on the rooftops of DX1 this game has one but the maps are so tiny there is no point of having one. RPG elements are garbage. If someone complaints about DX3 they should play this game. The game is short tough so you should be able to pass it quickly....

This game was made for a consol and that's where a lot of the issues stem from. The requirement of three different programs to run the thing is rediculess to me, but what do I know.
The small maps is again because of the memory constrictions of consol game systems at the time the game was developed.

Personally, I liked the story line for the most part and I liked the "brighter" feel of it. But, I can't argue that it was lacking in comparison to the original.

I had the benefit of playing IW first. I tried to start the original, but I quit early on when Carter or someone complained that I tazed everyone, rather than letting UNATCO do their thing. Still the original is superior, and HR was a great prequel.

Honestly, I enjoyed it. It had a certain charm, the kind that a video game should have. It wasn't deep or complex, and was rough around the edges, but I could see intentions, and they didn't really drop off. It was short, simple and to the point.

... Then the endings came, and I couldn't find any cyanide

Peoples' lips move in an extremely weird manor. I know that sounds petty, but it really turned me off from this game. I'm gonna try and finish it just to see what happens, but I'd give it maybe a 5/10 wouldn't really play again. It would be a better game if there weren't so many technical bugs. It changes my screen resolution every time I try and play it, plus it crashes when I try to load levels most of the time.

I had problems with it crashing from time to time in Windows XP, between levels, or transitions from location to location. Fortunatly, I saved frequently and used Quick Save a lot.

I origionally bought the game to put on a Win98 systme and had no trouble with it, beyond the long load times between transitions.

Over all, I liked the game enough that I've played it several times. Initially, once for each different end game. Then, a couple times just to revisit the series, especially when DEHR was anounced.

And, although I agree it wasn't the best of the series, I do still enjoy it, even with it's flacky querks.

Honestly, it takes you 5 minutes to realize this game is a POS compared to Deus EX and HR... Its too bad, the story doesn't make sense coming off the first one, and its just stupidly dumbed down and about as deep as a midgets vagina...

I came to the same conclusion. Despite what everyone has said, I can't get into this game. I'm replaying the first game again.

To be honest, it's the begining that's a little bad. But then it becomes a little better, the maps are bigger and it becomes more interesting. But you really need to "get in the zone" to really appreciate it.

The beginning is really just about getting info to try and figure out what's going on and why. The information is intended to help you choose a faction to champion. Myself, I play it through as far as I can without actually committing to one faction or another, always leery of them all.

Spoiler Alert!
I believe the game intends for the player to side with the Dentons’, being that Alex is essentially a clone based on JC. But, I have to admit, I have a problem with surrendering my mind and will over to a machine intelligence. Let alone commit everyone on the planet to the same fate. The only choice I could see that would leave any hope of survival with any semblance of free will was with the Illuminati. Any choice that pits you against the Dentons’ is going to be the hardest choice you can make. The Dentons’ are the toughest to beat.

The characters I remember playing are:
Deus Ex (origional) J C Denton Deus Ex: Invisable War Alex D Deus Ex: Human Revolution Adom Jenson
