Confirmed solution for DX:IW Biomod Labs -> Upper Seattle crash when saving

I've seen a handful of threads on this around the internet, but save for one hacky fix on these forums, there's no real solution.

The issue: From a certain point in the Biomod Labs (Tarsus Academy where you start) you can't save without the game crashing, and it crashes when you take the elevator to Upper Seattle.

The solution: Delete your save folder, start a new game, and don't save at all until you get to Upper Seattle. I admit to being a bit of a quicksave ♥♥♥♥♥, and I think that had something to do with triggering this bug.

Not sure if this is a widespread issue (I doubt it from the lack of threads on it), but just thought I'd post this here in case anyone gets this issue in future.

My pleasure :). As far as I remember from my last playthrough, the rest of the game is ok. Just this bit is annoying. Good thing it's near the start.

My game is behaving the same way. Trying to save the game in the Biomod Labs the game suddenly crashes almost at the end of the saving process, and travelling in the elevator to Upper Seattle the game crashes. Every time. I think wait this time it might go through all the way, and crashes. Faaaaaaak. I will try the method posted above to see if I can indeed continue through past the Biomod Labs to Upper Seattle. But if not. I'll be back to square one.

It should definitely work, it worked like a charm for me. I'm glad to see people playing Deus ex again :)

Yes it worked, as I hoped it would. Thank you very much. Without this help I would have given up trying to get the game to work without resorting to downloading fixes that may harm my PC.

But anyway. Thanks again. I'm glad that this is the only problem I have had with the game running on Windows 8.1. Once you get your character to Upper Seattle the game can be saved and it works normally. :-) .

I really miss this game, from the days of the old original Xbox. It was fun to play then, and had some funny glitches and bugs. I am overwhelmed and happy to be able to play it on a modern computer and OS. Super happy face.

Deleting my old save, restarting, and playing through the beginning without saving resolved the Biomod Labs > Upper Seattle crash for me, as well. Thank you for posting this! Bumping this thread for other confused troubleshooters.

My game was crashing while getting to upper seattle as well.

I did as the op said. Deleted my save folder, started a new game, did not save at all until upper seattle elevator and the game DID NOT CRASH.

So yeah, this solution worked for me.

Didn't worked for me.

Tried V-Sync off and on.
Tried run with compability (it ended up with the game not even connecting to Steam).
Even the solution in this thread did jack-smack-s*it for me, after running into two morons overseeing my apartment the game STILL CRASHED few seconds later.
Didn't saved once.
What's worse is that back in February this never occured to me. I had the problem to get it running, but after I manage to fix that - no crashes.
I wasted over 10 attempts to get out the labs, and I have no patience to waste 10.

EDIT: What seems to work for me was doing the prologue... Without using Visible Tweaker update.
