I agree.

Another Tactics ?
Aside from Ogre and Final Fantasy none come to mind - did I miss some?

X-COM is like FFT and Tactics Ogre. Aside from that, I don't know any games like FFT. Although there some others with similar gameplay.

Or do you mean another in the series? If so, no.

Well there is Stella Deus (PS2) and Fire emblem serie (almost on all the Nintendo consoles (Snes, Gamecube, DS, 3DS...).

Otherwise on Steam you can find Children of Zodiarcs.
Also, there is The Banner saga serie (3rd coming soon) and other with the same engine : Ash of gods (very interesting with rogue like stories and companions that can died (or lose arm etc...) along the road (a bit the same like Fire emblem but with more mature elements)) and Skyshine's BEDLAM set in a "Madmax" world.

Almost forgot Into the breach (sort of Puzzle chess, very addicting game) and Regalia :of men and monarchs (a bit of castle management and expansions comes with the tactic battles and funny dialogues between your characters)

They are probably a bit different in terms of gameplay and all...but feels good.

This game looks awesome.

I can personally recommend the Disgaea series. As far as gameplay, it is excellent. The story is humorous as well. Disgaea 5 Complete just released on PC (https://store.steampowered.com/app/803600/) and I've had quite a bit of fun playing it although I am looking forward to this game because I always loved the setting and story of FFT and this game seems quite similar. I would love to see a game similar to FFT that uses similar gameplay mechanics as Disgaea to allow playing forever. FFT was hands-down my favorite TRPG by a very large margin.

Another great game, indeed! I do own it on PS Vita and it was extremely challenging in certain battles from what I remember. I never finished playing it so I can't really compare the two comprehensively but I will always stand by my claim that FFT was my favorite TRPG ever. It's a bit sad that they never made a sequel or similar game. I'm certain it was a simple financial return over expenditure issue. TRPGs aren't that popular from what I've ascertained which sucks for guys like us.

Well there was also FFTAdvance 1 & 2...both were not bad (too easy) but sure far from the very first title (even if I do not know it a lot), in terms of difficulty, ambiance and graphics etc...

Disgaea I only know the first and second (they were very fun for sure, but a bit too grindy for my liking)...but I will certainly try the fifth one day, even if it's in 10 years haha.

Maybe (certainly) I'm totaly biased on this (I like mechas way too much), but I really would like to see another (real) Tactical from Front mission serie one day...

I see there is a good probability this one could be a true successor : https://store.steampowered.com/app/553540/Phantom_Brigade/

Otherwise I should try one day Tactics ogre (even if I think I did in the past ?) and Knight of lodis then, thanks for sharing !

I have played many, many RPGs, and many TRPGs, and the original SNES Tactics Ogre is the hardest I have played. But it is an amazing game. The PSP remake is significantly easier, but with so much more awesome endgame content. It is hard to say which I like more. I think PSP version wins out. TO:Knight of Lodis on GBA was also very good. FFTA was decent, much too easy and with a lot of annoying things and useless classes, but it is decent when modded. Never played FFTA2. I keep hoping Matsuno changes his mind from "I don't plan on doing any more TRPGs anytime soon," because I really want some more from him. I would love a game that sort of combines FF12 with Vagrant Story, or another Matsuno TRPG. That isn't mobile, isn't some weird little dice board game thing.
I haven't seen anyone mention Vagrant Story probably ever. That was a game I absolutely fell in love with when it came out. I loved the weapon crafting system and the different aspect to TRPG it had. The levels and enemies were just so unique. I think the only disconnect from me an others in this post is that I've been a PC gamer ever since the PS2 so I miss out on things. It's great seeing console-type games being released on Steam. I don't think a lot of developers realize how many PC gamers are out there that look forward to games that are controller friendly and particularly multiplayer/split-screen friendly.

I'd recommend a few fairly unknown PS1 titles:
Saiyuki: Journey West
Battle Hunter
Eternal Eyes

They all play pretty close to FFT and I really enjoy them.

Love me some FFT and Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. ^_^
There are a few on Steam that I've enjoyed as well that haven't been mentioned yet that have a similar style of play to Final Fantasy Tactics (job system, the way battles work, etc.) though the stories vary and I don't think they're really as good as FFT and TA:LUCT. Here they are:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/415920/Voidspire_Tactics/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/643900/Alvora_Tactics/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/699170/Fell_Seal_Arbiters_Mark/
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark is still in early access, but it's been making pretty steady progress and I've been enjoying it a lot.

Of course, there are other turn-based tactical RPGs out there as well, though these are the ones I've found most similar to FFT and TA:LUCT. There are games like Shadowrun Returns (and Hong Kong and Dragonfall), Battletech, Divinity: Original Sin (1 and 2), Wasteland 2, Dead State, Templar Battleforce, Chroma Squad, Silent Storm (and Silent Storm Sentinels), Bastard Bonds, AntharioN, the Avernum games, and Stellar Tactics (in early access). Then of course there are the Disgaea games as well if those are your cup of tea (I kind of lost interest in them over time due to how much they seem to love grinding). I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting, but those are the ones I've got and have played.

You can also check out the Turn-Based Tactics Steam group: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/tbtactics
