Lag
For some reason, there's a heavy lag when I'm in a big map/place or an area that has a lot of detail, like people and other things. Why is this? I'm using a modern laptop with good enough RAM and CPU to handle new games, but for this one, it's capping the RAM to around 1GB of usage or less, and the CPU isn't being used a lot.

Is there a way to fix this? Or to use multi core rendring if there is a way? Thanks!

Heh, I switched it to OpenGL but it looks kinda light now, and it's very smooth. Is that OK?

Do you have an updated renderer? Those could improve performance and add nice features. Also make sure you run with an updated .exe. Either Hanfling's or Kentie's. Also in the DeusEx.ini file there is a setting called "CacheSizeMegs=". Set it to 256.

Hmm, I'll chec the ini file out, not sure about what updater you're referring to, but I have my video card updated. I have it on OpenGL at the moment, but everytime I run the game, it changes my GAMA to something higher, and I have to change it everytime. Then reboot my computer. Any solutions for that?

Updated OpenGL renderer is here: http://www.cwdohnal.com/utglr/.
Direct3D 10 renderer is here: http://kentie.net/article/d3d10drv/
Both these renderers are distributed with the mod New Vision, is you have that or if you are planning on installing it.

GAMA? You mean "Gamma"? Try installing one of the mentioned renderers and see if the problem still persists.

Also Kentie's updated .exe is on the same site as the Direct3D 10 renderer.

Thanks a lot, I'll get the New Version mod, since it only does texture fixing, and currently downloading from that site.

Alright. Well get either one of the enhanced renderers, either Direct3D 10 or the OpenGL. Running with vanilla renders is bad. Also get either of the updated .exe's since it reduces crashes and other issues.

Also, if you want more HD stuff try Deus EX: HDTP. First installing the release that's on moddb and then the beta release found here: http://www.offtopicproductions.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=11566

After you are done with playing vanilla maps you could try my mod DX: Revision, http://www.moddb.com/mods/deus-ex-revision. It's not fully released yet, but it's coming.

Hmm, what update do you mean? I looked over the site, but the only executables I see are the DirectX and Windows C++ 2010 (was it) updates.

Ah, sorry to bother you a lot with the sources, didn't see that there :P

Np, that's why I'm here. :)

I tried updating the DirectX but still experienced some lag.

I got the OpenGL update and it worked fine, the Gamma problem is fixed too, it only goes brighter in-game, and when I close it, it goes back to default so no need to restart my computer. I can live with that. :)

I'll think about installing the New Version mod sooner later, since it requires an admin login to install.

Not sure to be kind of paranoid about it or not :P

I wrote the New Vision installer, and the reason it needs admin privileges is because it needs to access the registry to find out where your DeusEx installdir is.

But it's good you solved the lag issue with OpenGL. However may I inquire what your system specs are? If you have issues with lag running vanilla your computer might not be able to handle NV. It sucks away your VRAM fast.

Also the installer needs to write stuff to the registry so it shows up in Add/Remove programmes.
