How do I download it?

just find it in steam store and add it to your library)
then you need download deus ex goty AND deus ex revision.
Then click "Play" in deus ex revision in your library.
TLDR: Download Kentie's Launcher

So I want to add my 2 cents having just been through this myself, wasting what should have been my gaming time yesterday researching all this and trying out different revision options..

You're right, you can't play it as is on modern PCs. EVEN if it works, you'll run into FPS and audio issues almost immediately that render the game almost unplayable. I assume since you were trying to play it as is, you are after a vanilla experience.

That said, DON'T just download revision for a first play-through.

It's a complicated mess of different community mods ... I mean, it crashed once while I was still in the menus.

Also, for the people who say "Just turn off all the new stuff in Revision" -- you CAN'T do that. There is no option.

There are about 200 different options with multiple settings that you'll need to tweak to TRY and re-create a vanilla-like experience.

BUT here's the thing: for the two main options: Gameplay and Maps, only one of them (maps) is clear.

Maps is either Vanilla Deus Ex or Revision... EZ...

But Gameplay has 5 different settings and there are TWO that both kinda sound like what we want: A Vanilla one with minimal changes and a "Normal" one with the "baseline" revision experience including all bug fixes and QoL improvements BUT also with some content changes....

Ugh. They split it into two different things.

This game is considered one of the best, if not the best video game of all time... who in their right mind is gonna mess with the content?

Also, the low-res graphics are FINE... Geez, if you like Half-life 2 or Mass Effect 1, you'll be alright with this.

SO, in summary:

Don't just download revision... instead, follow this guide:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2875911574

It is easier to do than it sounds, the files are all virus free (don't take my word for it, lots of other people report the same thing) AND you'll actually be up and running faster than a play-through where you have to try and figure out the 200+ settings in Revision...

p.s. To the guys that made revision, you REALLY need a BIG FAT button at the top of ALL the options that says: Vanilla On / Off.

p.p.s. I cut and paste the most relevant section of the guide here:

"1. First thing first, you want to download the Deus Ex Map Fix. This patch fixes bugs in the most recently patched version of the game (installed on Steam by default): https://www.dxm.be/navigator.php5?lang=en&content=202
To install the Map Fix, run the .exe and follow the instructions, choosing your Deus Ex game folder when asked. To find this folder, right click on Deus Ex in your Steam library. Go to properties, then browse local files. Copy/paste the location from the text at the top of the window into where the Map Fix is asking you to, then run the .exe.

2. Next, I recommend downloading Kentie's Launcher. This launcher fixes more bugs and allows us to easily tweak a few important options: https://kentie.net/article/dxguide/
To install Kentie's Launcher, open the file with a .zip program, such as Winrar, and copy all contained files into your Deus Ex game folder's Systems folder. Overwrite when asked.

3. Finally, I recommend installing the DirectX 10 renderer. This renderer aids modern platforms greatly. It fixes countless issues that the game's outdated, default renderers use. There are various other custom renderers that improve performance too, but for me, DirectX 10 is the preferred option and I have tried most of them if not all, as it has the best looking lighting (clean and vanilla) and runs well: https://kentie.net/article/d3d10drv/ (download d3d10drv-v29.zip)
To install the DirectX 10 renderer, open the file with a .zip program, such as Winrar. Choose the Deus Ex folder and copy all contained files into your Deus Ex game folder's Systems folder.

Note: All files downloaded are virus free. I've installed them for over a decade on va"

Thank you, it works and I can confirm I tested all the files for virus and they are virus free. The way people still support old games makes me incredibly grateful. Thank you for taking the time to post all of this information and it really is easy to follow.

We're very lucky for the people who have kept our favourite games alive! Currently doing a GMDX run to appreciate what this team brought to the table :)
