Killing Lebedev "Spoilers"
This is my first playthrough on Deus Ex. It is definatly one of my favorite games, yet I am deeply curious about something. In the NSF Airfield, where you are given the mission of assassinating Lebedev, the leader, I chose to shoot Anna Navarre, not knowing that this would cause what would happen. What I am curious to know is what happens if you shoot Lebedev instead. Do you end up working for Majestic 12 and UNATCO, instead of working for the "NSF"? Very curious to find out. I am currently on my way to Paris on my current game, having buckets of fun.

I believe that somewhere in development they considered making it possible to be on either side, either UNATCO or Tracer Tongs. In the end they had to cut it due to time and budget concerns. Some hints in form of hidden conversations are still left in the game though.

No, all it does is change some dialogue I believe. Plot still remains the same

I understand. Thank you for the responses. I definatly would have enjoyed a chance to play as the antagonist, but the game is still immensly entertaining.

As has already been said it was originally part of the plans, however budget and time restraints played their part.

Would of been pretty damn epic to be able to play as the antagonist, and would of pushed this game even further into legendary status and perhaps solidified its place as the best game ever.

I believe there was also going to be a mission that had you in Texas during riots, similar to Chicago in HR come to think of it.

The original concept of Deus Ex included the option to stay loyal to UNATCO, which was scrapped in the final version (technical restraints, I guess). But there exists this piece of dialogue in the final game - the devs probably forgot to remove it. You can't progress without sending the signal, though.

Wow, I've never seen that before.

I'm surprised there was never a mod team dedicated to making that entire side of the game.

Yeah, there was. It was called UNATCO Born, never got finished though.

I've always killed Anna Navarre on the plane. Where does she meet her end if I leave her alive on the plane?

She'll show up again in the Unatco/Mj12 prison, and then later when you escape from Unatco.

If you don't kill her on the plane, you'll have an opportunity to kill her in the metro if you manage to get that far after you defect, and if she is still alive when you get captured, you'll meet her in the UNATCO HQ and have to kill her for the story to progress...

Oh yeah, totally forgot that you meet her in Battery Park before you are captured.

Third option would be just to walk away.. then navarra kills lebedev.

I think the only change was in the dialog with carter afterwards and if or not he gives you some additional weapon/supply.

If you don't kill her before you're imprisoned, you get to play an awesome stealth "boss fight". Take that, flatlander woman!

It's too bad you have to kill her to beat the game. I wanted a no kill run and was vexed to find I had to kill her to get out. I mean why can't I just use a rocket on the door and run past her?
